Sampaoli-Dybala

Post by F360 »

22 Minutes.
TWENTY TWO MINUTES.

That's how many minutes Dybala got in the World Cup. As a substitute. In ONE game.

Enzo Perez, Lanzini's replacement played 129 minutes over two matches but Sampaoli couldn't find a spot in his lineup for Dybala?

Some would say it might have been Messi's choice or input to not play Dybala, we don't know.
All I know is you have Messi, you have a lite version of Messi available, you don't think it'd be a good idea to play both? How can one be alright knowing they didn't give their team the best chance to win? (Higuain AND Aguero on the bench and playing Messi as a false 9 as if this is 2008 Barca).

Mehnnn, Sampaoli committed a football crime during the tournament but today was particularly scandalous!

What position did Messi play today and what position did Messi play vs Nigeria?

So you're saying Dybala can only play in one spot and in one position on the pitch?

Dybala is overrated. The real story is the omission of Aguero against France.

Only the limited mind fails to see how the two can work in tandem. Yes, Messi works from inside right, Dybala too, and with the knowledge that progressive overloads brought Kings their crowns and moreso, that Messi would be tagteamed like Marty Jeanetty and Shawn Michaels, there was a chance to still utilise the inside right. And then there’s positional interchange. Simply put, Sampaoli bottled it, failed to find a formula in his preparation, failed to prepare adequately and worst of all, failed to accept his Argentina were not his Chile.

Makes no sense. Both are very intelligent players and should be able to figure it out. Play Dybala behind the forwards, Aguero or Higuain in the middle, and Messi outside on the right where he often plays for Barcelona.

4-3-1-2 with Dybala and Igwe interchanging. Poor preparation, cancelled friendlies, little time for team building and strategic suicide. Sampaoli was a recipe for disaster. Sadly.

Took many cooks spoil the broth. What with so many 'after-the-fact' coaches?

This isn't a too many cooks situation my guy. This is a finding ways to get your best players on the pitch in positions that will be advantageous and cause problems to your opponents trying to defend.
Not a single person on this thread is an "After the fact coach" as it pertains to the Argentina team. Lots of fans, Nigerians, Argentinians, etc have been saying the same things re. Dybala, Aguero, etc and Sampaoli's lineup since the first match.

So glad the Albaciste backsides are on the plane back to Beunos Aires. We should have been playing against France today. And we would have had a chance. Damned Ighalo!

I don’t think Totti and Del Piero were the same or similar type of players. That overrated pretty boy Totti was not anywhere near Del Piero’s football ability and talent

Argentina is not wanting for personnel for the forward/striker positions. It's more about which players fit what the coach
believes will help the team achieve its objectives.
My position on too many cooks is about having players with diverging ideas to prosecute an agenda.
As for the 'after-the-fact' statement, it is exactly that for anyone assessing 'what should have been',
for a event already decided.
For anyone ever having to put a system together, matching parts is not necessarily picking the best
of this and that individually, but putting together what items can generate the best results.
Like is being discussed in another thread, football is too subjective for anyone to be quite certain of
what results can be achieved by doing certain things.
Cheers!!!

Regarding your after the fact statement- As I mentioned, it's not as if people just started talking about this today. It's been mentioned since the first match when Sampaoli released the lineup. That was before match 2, 3 and this R16 match so no, it's not after the fact.

No doubt one can't be quite certain of what results can be achieved by doing certain things but one can be certain that it's better to go down/lose and know you did your best/played your best players-team/emptied your ammunition...than to go out/lose with a lot more ammo left/quality players that can make a difference in a match sitting on the bench.

But hey, Sampaoli will feel he did it his own way as he led his team to R16 failure. Cheers to him.

I think it might have been for disciplinary issues after that first game. I think.

And what about getting them the ball? Messi and co had poor service all the tournament because the midfield sucked and the defense was a disaster. Sampaoli got his player and tactical selection wrong. Even if he picked Aguero, Dybala, and other players they'd still go out in disgrace.

Aguero was a sub for disciplinary reasons according to press reports.

Also, people are too focused on Argentina's four game run at this WC without recognizing they've been poor for the better part of 4 years. They limped into this WC over a 20 game qualifier despite having arguably the best group of players on earth.

I for one am yet to understand the hype around this Dybala. To me, he is just another average player.
