Zaidu Sanusi will cost us this trophy if Peseiro keeps using him
[1] How many heart-in-the-mouth moments did Zaidu Sanusi give you all today?
[2] He has lost the ball in dangerous positions all tournament but fortunately, these incidents have never led to goals yet
[3] Were this the World Cup, where we were up against quality opposition, the situation would have been much different
[4] Did you not see that the Cameroonians saw Zaidu as the weak link in the team and were targeting his wing?
[5] Offensively, Zaidu offers nothing. Compare his performance with that of Ola Aina on the opposite flank
[6] Did you not notice how that wing got blocked the moment Omeruo came on and Bassey went to play left back
[7] Peseiro has no choice now. He has to play Aina at left back and Bright Osayi-Samuel at right back
[8] We only scored that second goal because Bassey offered a threat going forward down the left
[9] Zaidu is not Super Eagles quality. Is Bruno Onyemaechi really any worse?
[10] I hope we have seen the last of Zaidu in this tournament. If not, he will cost us as fourth Nations Cup!

Easy on the guy. SE just beat Cameroon.

In the quarter-finals:
- disrupt the back line.
- move one of your better performers to the other side of the pitch.
- bring in a deputy, deemed only good enough to deputise at the start.
No Sanusi isn’t the best going forward, isn’t the most uncompromising of defenders but is part of a winning formula. Why change it?

Huh... no he won't. He is solid defensively. Going forward he is above average. Good player

He is very poor. And it's not just one match.
His defensive liabilities go back to that 4-4 Sierra Leone debacle.
I dont know what matches, his defenders on CE are watching.

I just re-watched the highlights of the game and with the benefit of less frayed nerves and emotions, I think Zaidu was decent...obviously not a mainstay player in the long-term, but he's defensively solid enough to be a back up to a more rounded fullback.

Zaidu is one of Nigeria’s most experienced players at top level football. He’s the only Nigerian to have featured regularly in the knockout stages of the UCL in 3 of the last 4 seasons. So give him the respect that he deserves.
Back to tonight’s match, he was solid defensively but not that great offensively.
It seems we must always have a scapegoat! He has been part of a defensive unit that has let in the least goals in AFCON but all some see is deficiencies.
I’m not sure he’s fully fit as he has been injured most of the season with Porto and has played less than 10 matches before AFCON.
His importance to Porto is highlighted by the fact that they always patch him up and ensure he’s available for their UCL matches and big games against Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
He will get better and there’s no need to open up a thread just to bash him

He wasn't at his smoothest today. But he was solid defensively and covered ground offensively. These things aren't easy to do. So one has to give the guy some credit.

Thx a lot YUJAM. Although I didn't play football in the HIGH LEVEL, but from experience, some days are different on the pitch for no reason. It simply is one of those things which happens to players in games. It might be what is happening to Zaidu if actually he is the weak link in the SE team like some here are saying

Please.
This is at least 2 matches where Zaidu has tried his best to gift the other team MULTIPLE goals.
Yet you all claim he played well. I dont understand what world yo all are living in. We will be punished. Maybe then you will finally get it.

You guys need to dispense with the self-serving dramatics. Zaidu may not have been at his best today but he wasn’t nearly as bad as y’all are making him out to be
Cheers.
Cheers.

Just imagine if this match has been against say Germany, Argentina, France, Brazil, England, Holland or Spain. All those Zaidu errors would have resulted in the ball hitting the back of our net!

Re: Zaidu Sanusi will cost us this trophy if Peseiro keeps using him
I actually think he should have contributed MORE defensively.
He seemed to be out laziest player. Even the attackers tracked back more than him.
Forget the offence, I think his defensive workrate was below the rest of the team.

Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Can Bruno Onyemaechi really be that bad that he cannot grab the number three shirt? I guess the search for fresh talent has to continue.
Re: Zaidu Sanusi will cost us this trophy if Peseiro keeps using him
I think he is out of the next match. Maybe he will switch Aino to LWB or play Bruno?
Aina too is one card from been out of next match.

Zaidu was actually better than I thought. His major issue was decision making offensively, apart from that he was solid.
Iwobi was quite good as well. Sometimes it's better to watch the match when you are relaxed.

Re: Zaidu Sanusi will cost us this trophy if Peseiro keeps using him
He was on a yellow and still making silly tackles, someone needs to pull him to one side and talk some sense into him. A potential short one in the making if care is not taken.
Re: Zaidu Sanusi will cost us this trophy if Peseiro keeps using him
He seems to be our "Elderson" from 2013. If that's the case, then he should score a great crucial goal in the semi, and all will be forgotten.

He has been solid in his primary role, defending. He could improve on the offensive front.

Zaidu was our weakest link in the game.
He gave away too many passes I felt like jumping into my TV and brushing the guy.
Lazy offensively and above average defensively.
