Jimi Balogun was the one they called Tyson then?Hard Man wrote:Left to right:

And Mutiu Adepoju was "Head Master"
Remember the way he beat Keller in the semis. Nice header !!!
Yup, Jimoh was Tyson .. sure had the looks, and he looked like he could take care of himself (nd half the opposition as well).
The Adepoju header in that semi-final was top-drawer, from a Dimeji Lawal cross into the box. He went up for it, Keller positioned himself just-so, and Mutiu realized that Keller had the angle covered, so, in mid-air, the dude shifted his torso just so, moving his head a few inches to the left and beyond the angle of Keller's coverage, and boom, banged that football with his forehead past Keller ...
Headers don't come any more deliberate than that!
The closest comparison I have to that is Trevor Francis's 1980 European Cup winner for Nottingham Forest v. Malmo FF.

Hardman: Btw, Chinedu Odiari was a great Ife too
It is a pity they dropped Victor Ezekwesili despite scoring virtually all the prelims goals....it would have been 2 Great Ifes...

Yup FF, Great Ife had Nosa osadolor in the 87 team, and the 89 had Chinedu Odiari, although he didn't have Nosa's star quality but man mi he was a *Nice Lady* to attack.
Ezekwesili wasn't even involved in the qualifiers, o ...
That Great Ife team na waya ... Wasiu Adebayo, Tosin Adebambo, Victor, Nosa, Tunde Sanni, Chinedu, the list was just endless...
And do u recall the COBRA magazine story explaining Tosin's temporary loss of form .. because some opekes were "fighting over Tosin Adebambo's abunna"?
I'll get me coat ....

It is:
Back row: [1]Angus Ikeji, [17](Zanza) Philip Osundu, [10]Demeji Lawal, [3]Nduka Ugbade, [14]Chris Nwosu, [16]Bawa Abdullahi (capt)
Bottom row: [4]Chris Ohenhen, [2]Jimoh Balogun (Tyson), [13]Tunde Charity, [8]Mutiu Adepoju, [15]Mike Onyemachara
And I think this was the picture for the opening game against Saudi Arabia.... Chinedu Odiari was a second half sub... and Nduka Ugbade started and finished that game....

Does anyone have a pic of the 1985 U-17 team and names.?
I can recall just a few names:
Nduka Ugbade -- (Captain)
Lucky Agbonsevbafe (sp) -- Goalie
Victor Igbinoba (sp) -- That stunner against Germany in the final was something else
Sanni Adamu ( I think)
There used to be two Olukanmi brothers (not sure set they were)
