MADRID (AFP) - English Premiership champions Arsenal have offered 24 million euros (28.6 million dollars) for Spanish international striker Fernando Morientes who is on loan to Champions League finalists Monaco from Real Madrid.
AS newspaper said Arsenal were trying to tempt Morientes with a salary of three million euros.
A source close to Morientes' agent told AS that Arsenal's English Premiership rivals Chelsea and Newcastle as well as Italian clubs Roma and Juventus were also interested.
Real loaned the 28-year-old centre forward to Monaco at the start of the season because they feared he would not accept being merely a substitute for Brazilian World Cuyp winner Ronaldo.
Having experienced a disastrous seasons without a single trophy, Real have now decided to sell Morientes to finance the purchase of three or four players.
Morientes helped knock the club that own him out of the Champions League on Monaco's way to the final. He is struggling to be fit for the final against FC Porto in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, later this month.
