...Releases N30m for Super Eagles trip to Angola
Ubiquitous businessman, Dr Mike Adenuga is fast becoming a messiah to the leadership of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), as he has again rescued the football house from jaws of financial malaise threatening it from prosecuting this weekend’s World Cup qualifying tie against Angola’s Palanca Negras in Luanda.

Daily Independent had, yesterday, exclusively reported that the NFA was in dire financial straits as the Sports and Social Development Ministry had not released money to the football house for the prosecution of the Nations and World Cup qualifying series even after the budget of the ministry has been released.

But Tuesday afternoon, the Globacom boss released to the NFA, N30m to support the Super Eagles World Cup 2006 campaign.

The money, according to the NFA Secretary General, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi came as a big respite for the Super Eagles’ preparations for this weekend’s match against Angola, which had been threatened by lack of fund.

The payment made through a cheque presented by one of the company’s directors, Mr. Niyi Adewunmi, brings to N100m the total amount Globacom has given to the NFA this year in fulfilment of its obligation as the official sponsor of the Super Eagles.

Receiving the Equatorial Trust Bank cheque at the NFA Glass House, Ogunjobi thanked Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr. for the company’s support to football in Nigeria. “Beautiful, this is wonderful, enthused an elated Ogunjobi adding, “Globacom is a friend in deed. Dr Adenuga has come to our rescue at the most critical time and we remain grateful to him”.

Ogunjobi said he has informed Sports Minister, Colonel Musa Mohammed of the development and that he received the news with excitement. He also said that NFA Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was equally relieved by the news of the financial windfall and asked him to extend his gratitude to Globacom.

Ogunjobi said that the gesture has reinforced NFA’s confidence in appointing Globacom its Official Partner and Sponsor of the National Teams. “Our partnership has been justified once again by Globacom and we hope this relationship will continue”, remarked the NFA chief executive.

In January, Globacom supported the Super Eagles Nations Cup outing with N70m paid in two instalments of N50m and N20m. The company remains the biggest financial supporter of Nigerian football with over

N390m spent on various aspects of the nation’s football, including sponsorship of the Premier League.

Now, we can criticise CCC for this, that and the other - some of which is warranted, and some of which is complete hogwash. But, in my view, these are the prinicipal areas in which he has been a disappointment.
All the same, I salute Christian Chukwu for his efforts, his selflessness and his hard work. He has served his country to the best of his ability. The predicament that we are in, right now, is not soley of his making and we should all keep that in mind.

The two players are in different worlds. Ade is too young to be compared to Kanu. Kanu has been around and has raked in laurels upon laurels. If he is not scoring, he is assisting; and if he is not, he is entertaining ... one of the finest players in the world. Please for past times, compare Kanu to Brazilian Socrates..bbc606

Very impressive. I guess the FA is finally doing something right as it regards marketing the team. Hopefully if this whole trend can continue, they will be able to get rid of that stupid decree that eternally binds them to the sports ministry, and hopefully save us a FIFA ban.

No matter what everybody thinks, this FA has improved. Since last year, we've been playing friendly games, the now have a corporate sponsor, and things are moving fine with CCC in the driver's seat. Awesome.
