Okocha gets new date

Post by naija4ever »

Skipper of the Super Eagles, Austin Okocha, is not expected to join his colleagues for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Angola until Thursday.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Football Association, Mr. Samuel Kaalu, said on Tuesday that the first batch of the team was expected to leave on Tuesday night as earlier scheduled while the last batch would leave on Thursday.

According to him, the batch consists of players who were already in camp before Tuesday, such as Vincent Enyeama, Sunday Rotimi, Greg Etafia, Yakubu Adamu, Dauda Wahab, Tosin Dosumu, Paul Obiefule, and Rabiu Baita.

The second batch, he said, would comprise the rest of the foreign-based players who would have arrive the country for airlifting via South African Airways on Thursday.

Although Okocha was sighted in the country last Saturday, Kaalu denied any such thing, saying that the player was yet to arrive the country.

He said the player had been granted the permission to arrive for the match on Thursday, as it was still not clear if he would be able to make it to camp before the end of Tuesday.

While Seyi Olofinjana was being expected on Tuesday night, Garba Lawal was said to have informed the coaches that he would prefer to fly straight from his base to South Africa.

He disclosed that one of the players already in camp, Aliu Muhammed, would not be leaving with the team on Tuesday night, owing to delays in processing his visas.

The Secretary-General of the NFA, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, is expected to lead the last batch to Angola on Thursday.

Now, we can criticise CCC for this, that and the other - some of which is warranted, and some of which is complete hogwash. But, in my view, these are the prinicipal areas in which he has been a disappointment.
All the same, I salute Christian Chukwu for his efforts, his selflessness and his hard work. He has served his country to the best of his ability. The predicament that we are in, right now, is not soley of his making and we should all keep that in mind.

The two players are in different worlds. Ade is too young to be compared to Kanu. Kanu has been around and has raked in laurels upon laurels. If he is not scoring, he is assisting; and if he is not, he is entertaining ... one of the finest players in the world. Please for past times, compare Kanu to Brazilian Socrates..bbc606
