SUPPORTERS Club President General, Rafiu Ladipo, believes that South Africans hate Nigerians going by their hostile attitude.
Lamenting the treatment members of his club have received from the South African High Commission in Lagos, Ladipo said it was unheard of for a World Cup host country to deny genuine football supporters visas to the competition, adding that his club had lost over N5 million to the antics of the High Commission.
“The 150 tickets for the Nigeria versus Argentina match, which we bought at the cost of N1,980,000, are still with them. We bought those tickets at the cost of $88 each but we could not use them,” Ladipo said.
“Only 22 of us, who already had South African visas, travelled to the country for the match, so we had to mobilise other Nigerians living here to form a team for the game. And then we had to buy the tickets at $350 each to enter the stadium.”
Ladipo said the South Africans attitude could not be divorced from their new policy, which aims to drive Nigerians out of the country. He added: “We learnt that South Africa is lamenting that there are so many Nigerians in the country, whom it wants to drive away. Allowing more Nigerians to come in, World Cup or not, is not in its best interest.
“We have reported our case to the High Commissioner, Brig.-Gen. Marwa and we hope the government will step into the issue.”
