Nigeria Super 4: Enyimba win, Pillars draw
Dele Olorundare of Sunshine Stars (l) vs Kenneth Anyanwu of Enyimba (r) on Wednesday in Ijebu-Ode
August 5, 2010
Enyimba beat Sunshine Stars 1-0, while 10-man Kano Pillars held Kwara United to a scoreless draw on the opening day of the Nigerian pre-season tournament, the Super Four, staged at the Gateway International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode Wednesday.
League kings Enyimba took the lead in a balanced first half through a swift counter attack initiated by veteran striker David Tyvkase and finished off by Atanda Sakibu in the 33rd minute.
It was a busy day in the office for both defences in the first period, while after the interval Sunshine pushed for an equaliser but failed to put away the several chances they created.
In the first match of the day, Pillars were cancelled out by Kwara even after they were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Shehu Mohammed Shagari was sent off for a second booking in the 73rd minute.
Despite being without league top scorer Ahmed Musa and midfield star Solomon Okpako on account of international duty, the Kano side were the better team and dominated proceedings.
In the first half, Gambo Mohammed, Rabiu Ali and Kamilu Amani were denied by the impressive Kwara goalie Kassim Yekeen.
And even after Shagari was dismissed, Pillars continued to press forward with substitute Thompson Joseph crashing his header against the post in the 79th minute, moments after man of the match goalkeeper Yekeen saved a Rabiu Ali free kick.

Expert rating.
Rabiu Ali
A confident playmaker/central midfielder from Nasarawa United.
This is only his second season with his hometown club.
He can do both the beautiful and ugly things in midfield. He has scored goals on the counter and he is also the team’s official penalty taker.
He is entrusted with the team’s dead ball situations from the left.
Best remembered for getting Pillars’ second goal in Cairo against Al Ahly of Egypt.

sick goal...
We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14
I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Didn't realize how many Egypt national team starters play for Al Ahly. And a bunch of our local boys took em to school in Cairo!

Re: Rabiu Mohammed Ali---Best CM in da local league.
He’s 43yrs old and has been in the league for 14yrs. Was he in Europe prior to that or did he turn pro @29? Could also be an error. Maybe he’s been in the league for 24yrs not 14yrs, that would make sense.

Still doing his thing after all these years. He deserves to be honoured.

Sporting Lagos 'issued Rabiu Ali and Kano Pillars bitterness' as some say on this site.
Good to see Junior Lokosa back in the league, and his combination with Jonathan Alukwu upfront seems promising for Sporting Lagos.

Certainly, not for SE at 43 years old!!! However, the guy got to be commended for playing as starter and still doing well at that age. The game will be so slow for him. These are the type of guys who can see an action 2-3 plays ahead. Those type of players are rare and often play past their due date. Over the years we have seen quite a few of such players.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics
