While i don't agree with the slant against Eto'o and that Okocha single handly carried Bolton (plenty of other top players, including a World Cup winner were in that Bolton team), the reputation and adulation of Okocha shouldn't be underestimated. As previously said, Okocha, Kanu, Finidi, Oliseh etc were all practically household names and considered world class. The Super Eagles of the mid/late-nineties were something else and gained Nigeria fans from all across the globe.

Nowadays our biggest "star" is a much maligned defensive midfielder who specialises in sideways passes.
