Ikhana makes U-turn, ready for U-23 job

Post by Okpoama-boy »

Former coach of Eyimba Football Club, Mr. Kadiri Ikhana, has turned up at the Nigeria Football Association secretariat to discuss the terms of handling the Nigerian Under-23 team through the course of qualifying them for Athens Olympics.

Although the coach was said to have sealed a coaching deal with the Leopards of South Africa, he is expected to handle the Dream Team on a short-term basis.

It was not, however, clear what the NFA was offering the African Champions League winner, even as there were indications that the coach was not ready to be placed on allowances, but wanted an outright contract.

Ikhana’s appearance at the NFA Glasshouse was surprising, since the board had earlier lost the hope of securing his services to rescue the Olympic team from the embarrassment of losing the ticket to play the summer Olympics.

The meeting between the coach and NFA officials continued late into the evening on Thursday, even though it started in the afternoon.

The Nigerian team has played three matches with four points, but are placed third on the table.

They need to win all their next three matches to resurrect the hope of qualification
