NWANKWO Kanu's secret plan to use the Nations Cup finals this month to launch himself into the big market after the expiration of his contract with Arsenal in the summer may have been dashed after all.

The sleeky midfielder is feared to have a slim chance of making Coach Christian Chukwu's Super Eagles first team and therefore would likely be in Tunisia to clap for his teammates.

Investigations Wednesday indicated that the Eagles handler has his Nations Cup programme in the attack woven round the duo of Schalke 04's Victor Agali and Shaktar Donetsk's Julius Aghahowa with Lens' John Utaka and captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha playing the support role.--

Chukwu had planned an arrow-head featuring a twin assault by Portsmouth's Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Aghahowa with Kanu filling the rear but was forced to beat a retreat following Agali's decision to return to the team which he dumped after Mali 2002 Nations Cup finals.

The former Harambee Stars of Kenya pilot, is being forced to render Kanu a reserve bench material following the belief that he lacks the qualities to fit into the highly physical style of play in the continental championship, going by past experience.

Besides, Daily Champion learnt that Agali's technical inadequacies as a player whose best can be got if featured in the top striking position, has become Kanu's loss, as Chukwu is believed to have iron-confidence in the Germany-based's ability to transform his attacking success at Schalke 04 in the ongoing Bundesliga to the best interest of the national team in Tunisia.
Agali spearheaded the U-23 Eagles attack featuring Aghahowa and Aiyegbeni at Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

At Mali 2002 Nations Cup, Coach Shaibu Amodu continued with the tripod at the initial stage.
