Players like Maradona, Ronaldo, Canavaro, Iniesta, Xavi, Zidane are leaders, while Messi is not. Messi could perform in a team with a strong leader, but he can't lead a team to sucess at the highest level.

YUJAM wrote:I have said over and over that BP is probably the most stupid guy to ever grace the pages of CE. One would think that he would at least have the basic sense to wait till the tourney end to write off Messi. But he has once again set himself up for egg all over his face

Once again, a note of caution to more sensible folks: Messi is too talented to write off as a failure at NT level. He is the best player in the world by a mile. He is also very young. Maradona was an abject failure at the 82 WC and only made an indelible mark at NT level at the 86 WC.

I have a feeling Argentina will win the Copa btw

Still the most gifted player of his generation. Argentina should've moved heaven and earth to get Simeone, failing that, Prof Pulis. The latter mastered Spanish along with Portugese during his time in Rio. Pulis armed with that squad, more gold than Spandau Ballet.

No way. At best he's on par with the other two claimants to the title.

Kanu never won a Nations Cup and we SE fans don't hold it against him, I'm sure Argentina would do the same.

We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand
Roy Keane: ITV 02/25/14

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14

I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Nigerians always LOVED Kanu...always. Even when players like Okocha and Oliseh took heat for skipping games or whatever other shenanigans, Kanu was always loved. Argentina never really cared for Messi. When you've been spoiled with talents including Maradona, you tend to have a more demanding approach to players. He's barely considered one of them. We'll see how it shakes out, I doubt they'll be kind.

Messi has achieved a lot for his country. Youth cup, Gold Medal and several appearances in a major cup final. Soccer is a tough team sport and I don't think it is fair to label his International career a failure just because they couldn't complete the task of winning the world cup or Copa. It's extremely hard on the international level to be as consistent as Argentina has been. Before you say the likes of Mikel :dream: have achieved more for their country, I want you to ask yourself this: Has Nigeria beaten an Argentinian team when Messi was playing. How many goals has Messi scored against Nigeria?

So beating Nigeria, is Messi accolade as world best? What has Messi won in club football, that Mikel is yet to win? Now what has Messi won at senior level repping Argentina?
