Copper Queens give away 3-1 lead to draw with Switzerland
The Zambia Women’s National Team gave away a 3-1 half time lead to share spoils with Switzerland in an international friendly match played at Tissot Arena in Bienne.
Coach Bruce Mwape maintained the team that started in the 3-2 loss to the Republic of Ireland.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock after eight minutes, Ana Maria Crnogorcevic finishing off from close range.
The Copper Queens responded almost immediately as Grace Chanda levelled matters in the 13th minute with a beautiful finish.
Seven minutes later Barbra Banda broke free and went on solo run before scoring with a powerful shot to put the visitors in the lead.
Rachel Kundananji made it 3-1 just before halftime as the hosts failed to deal with a Xiomara Mapepa free kick.
The Copper Queens however capitulated in the second half allowing two goals.
The hosts came from the break looking determined to change the state of affairs and it only took 9 minutes for Seraina Piubel to pull one back with a close range finish.
Substitute Coumba Sow levelled matters in the 81st minute with the defence looking suspect again.
Zambia thought they would be awarded a penalty when Hellen Chanda was brought down in the box but the referee waved the protests away.
Both teams could not find the winner and settled for a draw in the end, 3-3 the match ended, an entertaining 6 goal thriller for the spectators.

Seriously, is Zambia richer and more organized than us? They won AFCON with Hervé Renard who we know didn’t come cheap. They recently hired Avram Grant who probably didn’t come cheap and its working out for them so far. Their women finished 3rd at AFCON and now playing friendlies while we have dramas going on in both of our teams.
"Yea right, we await the beatings the Aussie has for them. The Falcons are just another bad team at the women world cup".....fatpokey Tue Jul 25, 2023 4:34 .

...almost all the women team going to the world cup this month have been engaged in friendlies except Nigeria who are embroiled in internal squabble as usual before every major tournament. Damn shame.
