Is Pep a good coach sans Messi?

Post by kalani JR »

He's shown up domestically everywhere league he has coached but he hasn't advanced past the semi-finals since leaving Barcelona and Messi.

So, did Messi win all those UCLs for Barca? How is it that such rhetoric is seldom recalled when debating the Kings of Celtic? Convenient amnesia.

Funny enough, he is actually not! I have seen him play 4 different formations IN ONE GAME!

Yes...all designed to tiki taka himself to oblivion. His game management can be shite when things go wrong for him. That's why Bayern got rid of him...he is an advanced Sarri. Good coach though. The way he turned Sterling into a player is remarkable.

seriously, what's the way forward for him though?
Since he left Barca, it seems that his teams cannot keep focus for 180 mins in the CL despite all the spells of brillance.

One thing Peperempe has never understood is that unless you have cross-generational talent like Messi or Ronaldo,....Defense is what takes you over the finish line towards championships.

How can you open yansh at home to Spurs for 3 away goals in a UCL game????......Away goals done kill am, again!

he didn't renew his contract with Bayern, they would have been more than happy to keep him. Also remember when they eliminated Juvents after extra time? That was as old school as it gets, crosses from Coman to Lewandowski/Müller who managed to get through. His teams can play diverse, it seems though that his teams lack some kind of clinical instinct. The amount of cheap goals they give away in crucial games is unreal

Exactly, how can you score 4 and concede 3 to a Spurs without Kane? Any other coach would have brought Fernandinho in earlier. The key to this game was getting a hold of Son earlier but that's not his style and he will never change.

You can stay true to your style and still win it. ALthough I am not his biggest fan, take Löw in 2014 example. No holding midfielder left (Kramer injured) and he brought in Schürrle, which was a very attacking minded change. I doubt many coaches would have made such a change in the first half of a tied World Cup final. And the type of goals City gave away are ridiculous for a top team.

Maybe in Bayern...for City it's the same way game in game out. He might change formation but never his philosophy. When things go wrong, eg Laporte playing like shite and Spurs actually enjoying some possession, he freezes. Say what you like about Mourinho, but he would have managed the game better. Not beyond him to take off Laporte and Silva for Fernandinho and Otamendi. That would have done it....Son was really the only danger for Spurs.

I have heard this quite a bit, but did you guys actually watch Sterling under Brendan Rodgers? Sterling literally had nowhere else to go, but, up! I am not saying Pep hasnt influenced him, but its laughable the way people are talking like Sterling would have been poor or less than amazing if he didnt meet Pep. Under Brendan Rodgers when he played as a false 9, he was unplayable!

I just realized something-- Pep's attack on VAR is a result of the fact that his Barcelona team was full of cheats! He realizes that if there as VAR during his barca time, he'd have won nothing!

Pep is the best coach on the planet. The guy is brilliant.

I've been very critical of him for micromanaging Bayern and City in the KO stages of the CL and failing to prepare his boys adequately. When you go from beating everyone handily to losing 4-0, 3-0, etc (with Bayern in 2014 and 2015, and City in 2018 in the same season there is something going on with coaching. Nearly every time one of his teams has been knocked out from the CL since he left Barca have they conceded 5-6 goals over 2 legs.

That being said, Pep was NOT at fault today. Two defensive lapses (and Ederson should've saved the 1st goal) cost City the CL. They scored 4 goals and could've scored 7 thanks to Pep's coaching. His defenders let the team down. One could argue they should've parked the bus after the Aguero goal but the Llorente goal came off a corner kick (not much you can do there). City will be back again next season.

How can you criticize Pep for money yet point to Zidane? Zidane had a team with 2 of the most expensive transfers ever (Ronaldo and Bale) and a lot of other expensive players.

The money issue is not that important anymore. You need be a huge spender to win the CL these days. The last team to win the CL without spending huge was Porto...15 years ago...

In education, its called an "analogy" or a "comparison." If we are to state that Zidane spent money and we also know that Guardiola spent money. Fine, they both spent money! What was the result? Zidane won 3 CL titles, while the Fraud didnt.

By the way, this was Zidane's starting 11 - Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe/Varane, Marcelo; Modric, Kroos, Casemiro; Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema.

How many of those players did Zidane buy?

:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Sure! Its not important when you beat up Accrinton Stanley like they stole something and then raise the carabao cup with so much pride! Let tbe Fraud compete without spending 200 million on fullbacks and lets see how good he is!

He spunked 70 million on Riyadh Mahrez so that Mahrez can spend time watching City play! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Thats the difference! Imagine having a player like Mahrez just chilling while other clubs do not even have a starting winger half as good as Mahrez and we are supposed to believe that you are the best coach???

You take a bazoooka to a fist fight and kill your opponent with one shot and you are beating your chest claiming that you ar ethe best fighter in the world???!!!! Pleaseeeee!
