No rift with Keshi — NFF

BY JOHN JOSHUA- AKANJI

The much postponed meeting between the NFF technical committee and the Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi will finally take place on April 22 to discuss the Eagles’ final World Cup list.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Sunsports, chairman of the NFF technical committee Barrister Chris Green said there was no rift between his committee and the Super Eagles manager. Hear him: “ We had to postpone the meeting with the coach for the reasons which everybody knows. But now we have fixed the meeting for April 22 in Abuja. This is to allow frayed nerves to calm down. We do not want anything that will distract the coach, the NFF or the players for that matter. The world cup is very crucial, so we must all rally round the coach and the players to succeed. This no time for apportioning blame, but a time to focus on the huge task ahead. The coach as well as the NFF know the enormity of the huge task ahead, so we would not toy with the emotions of millions of Nigerians who have shown tremendous support to the team and the NFF. We have suddenly reawakened the interest of Nigerians in our national team, so we will not do anything that would draw us back.”

Green insists that “Coach Keshi and the NFF are working towards a successful outing at the World Cup. He has a target, just like we also have a target. If he gets us to the quarter, semi final or the finals of the world cup, we will all be happy. But we can only achieve this under an atmosphere that is free of rancour and distractions”

He declared that the delay in meeting would not affect the Eagles World Cup plans. “Even before the formal meeting, we have been working round the clock to perfect the team’s World Cup plans. We have lined up series of friendlies, we are in touch with all our players whom we monitor closely. As far as the NFF is concerned, there is no cause for alarm. Our World Cup plans are on course,” Green concluded.

It would be recalled that the technical meeting with the coach was postponed twice due to the coach’s late arrival from his annual leave.
