It is being alleged that all Man Utd strikers are unavailable for today's game at Stamford Bridge

I think Mourinho must set up the team to play a 3-5-2 formation with Mata & Mkhitaryan as front 2, Young & Valencia as wingbacks.
That way we will outnumber them in midfield

Given the LVG-esque injury crisis for tonight's game. I would pick:

DDG
Jones-Baiily-Mark Red
Tony Valence-Andrew Smith- Carrick-Pogba-Shaw
Fellaini-Mkhitaryan

Subs: Blind, Mike Smalling, Mata, Young, Lingard, Schweinsteiger

Might have been a good game for Memphis Depay to get a run out (scored 5 goals in his first 6 games for Lyon, including this Beckhamesque goal from the halfway line):

Mourinho specialises in these types of games (close, defensive, opposition has better attacking players, his team will not have much possession etc). The games where he struggles are those where it is the other way around and the impetus is on his team to dominate possession and attack (e.g. home draws against Stoke, West Ham, Burnley, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Liverpool).

since Mata and Mkhitaryan are both midfielders, i mean we will basically have more natural midfielders on the pitch than them.
Plus i don;t think they play exactly 3-5-2, but a type of formation with 3 at the back with Costa at the front. Not too sure though.

Anyway looks like Rashford starting

Andrew Smith is now suspended for 2 games. Might have been a handy time to have a French international midfielder to bring into the team...

Carrick will play

I hate Rojo but he was immense against Chelsea. Had Costa in his back pocket

Why do you "hate" Mark Red?
See my comments about him in the Chelsea FA Cup game thread (and earlier on in this thread a couple of seasons ago).

That is why other English teams don't want to go far in Europa, now United must choose between resting players for Thursday or the big EPL fixtures 2 days later.
It will be very hard to win those games after playing on Thursday.

Given that Man Utd stay stuck in 6th place win, lose, or draw, it may be a good idea to play the strongest squad in the Europa League, and rest players in EPL games.

I'd say so as well.

12 not so easy EPL fixtures in order to get a CL place

vs 4 home and away games plus winning a Final in order to get a CL place plus a Trophy

The only problem if Man United put all the eggs in Europa, they cannot afford to do a Liverpool because everyone will laugh

Interesting comments from Mourinho on NBC Premier League Shorts:

He said after SAF, Man Utd "sold players I would never have sold and bought players I would never have bought". He listed ADM, Chicharito, and Welbeck in the former category.

The Boro game also demonstrated something I often say: ref decisions against Man Utd are often ignored because in many games where the ref gives a bad decision against Man Utd, they go on to win the game anyway. Today with the score at 0-0, Boro's Adam Clayton did a flying body tackle on Johnny Kills in the penalty area and it should have been penalty to Man Utd. In the same move Boro's [either Barnardo or Gibson] brought down Rashford. Boro should have been penalised twice in one move. The ref refused to give either decision and even the normally placid Michael Carrick went ballistic at the ref.

No one will ever talk about the injustice of those decisions because Man Utd won the game.

Mourinho is building a disciplined team, we can certainly climb up the table, people should forget about the past, we will never dominate the premiership again

United have a much better chance now after the weekend. Up to 5th. You can get 4th or even 3rd.

How did Man Utd contrive to draw those games against Bournemouth, Burnley, Arsenal, Hull, Everton, West Ham, Liverpool, and Stoke after laying siege to the opponents' goal. Combination of bad finishing, heroic goalkeeping by the opposition GK, and Jose trying to win 1-0 (rather than go for a killer second goal) led to them repeatedly conceding late/last minute equalisers. 14 very valuable points dropped in games they should have won by a canter, but drew.

If Man Utd finish 5th but end the season with the EFL Cup in the cabinet, what will happen to Jose? LVG was fired for winning the FA Cup and finishing 5th (on goal difference - same points as Man City).
