Cameroon defy Blatter

Cameroon will play in their new one-piece kit at the African Cup of Nations despite a threat by Fifa President Sepp Blatter to outlaw it.
The bodysuit contravenes Fifa's rules and Blatter warned he would intervene if it was worn.

But the defending champions still plan to wear the kit for their opening match against Algeria on Sunday.

"There was no reason to disqualify it," Cameroon FA pesident Iya Mohammed said.

Cameroon team profile
Cameroon's team management decided to go against Blatter's wishes following a meeting late on Friday.

The red and green bodysuit combines the traditional shorts and jersey, and has zippers on the shoulders, and red lion's claw-marks down either side.

But according to Fifa rules a kit must consist of both a pair of shorts and a separate shirt.

Fifa's International Board is likely to discuss the issue at the end of February, two weeks after the end of the Cup of Nations.

It is therefore expected that the Indomitable Lions will wear the controversial new kit for the duration of the tournament.

It is the second time Cameroon's kit supplier Puma has created a stir with a new outfit.

Two years ago at the Cup of Nations in Mali, Cameroon played with a sleeveless shirt.

That shirt was later outlawed by Fifa, forcing Cameroon to have new shirts made for the World Cup the same year.
