Benoit Assou-Ekotto is the new Winston Bogarde

Post by General Trousers »

This post is a composite of two news stories cited below

News reports say that Benoit Assou-Ekotto is unlikely ever to play for Tottenham Hotspur again unless he is sold or loaned in the January transfer window he will complete nine years at the club.

He is in the final year of his deal at Spurs, having joined from Lens for £3.5million in June 2006. In that time he has made only 155 appearances, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has completely excluded the Cameroon left back from his senior squad. Instead the left-back, who spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, has a separate training schedule and has been allocated a fitness coach

The left-back is still listed as a first-team player on the Spurs website although it also points out that he has not played for the club since featuring for 84 minutes in the 1-0 win at home to Sunderland on May 19 2013. Assou-Ekotto earns £37,000-a-week.

[Wikipedia] On 2 September 2013, Assou Ekotto signed on a season-long loan deal with Queens Park Rangers.[11] He made his debut for the club on 18 September against Brighton & Hove Albion, coming on as a first-half substitute replacing Nedum Onuoha.[12] He played 27 league matches and helped QPR return to the Premier League via the play-offs.

he publicly supported Anelka's quenelle anti-jewish thingy and even invited an anti-semitic comedian to a Spurs game

now he is just finding out how powerful and far-reaching jews can be

thers nothing wrong with him footballingwise, hes actually a decent Left-Back, but he made some wrong choices off-field and he shall pay

maybe he can revive his career in the Indian football league, i hear they pay decent wages

My brother chop your money, keep fit and stay fresh. You'll get another club that is not intimidated by the self-righteous Jewish mafia.

He is far better than the Rose of Tralee tht currently plays the left back anyways, but as you have pointed out, if he has done such things you alluded to him off the field, he could be paying for his sins. The question is does he have the dignity to walk away and get playing time elsewhere. There is no reason for him to be locked out of the team completely he aint that bad at least compared to the pretenders they have playing the position at the moment.

But then this was the guy who said that he is in the game for the money...have nothing against him...this would explain why he would rather rot away kept away from the team while collecting his full pay.

If this is true then he is not the brightest fellow in the world! Spurs has always had a strong Jewish contingent, hence their nickname the "Yids"(which some supporters are trying to ban deeming it racist).

yes sure, heres where i read this stuff, i remember reading this stuff and saying oh dear

Spurs rap Assou-Ekotto over race tweet inviting 'quenelle' comedian to White Hart Lane

Benoit Assou-Ekotto was at the centre of another French race storm on Tuesday after it emerged that he had invited anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala to a game at Tottenham, insisting he would ‘love it’.

In a tweet that has now been deleted, the Tottenham left back — currently on loan at QPR — messaged the man who invented the controversial quenelle gesture used by Nicolas Anelka to celebrate a goal for West Brom on Saturday at West Ham.

French-born Assou-Ekotto said: ‘oh dieudo tu vien quand voir un match a tottenham? Tu va adore ... LOL.’

In English it reads: ‘When are you coming to watch a match at Tottenham? You’ll love it ... LOL.’

The tweet, sent on November 18, is open to interpretation, but in the context of a tweet he then posted in support of Anelka at the weekend, it is sure to concern a club with strong Jewish roots. On December 28, Assou-Ekotto tweeted Anelka, saying: ‘jte fellicite man belle keunel epaule.’

Translated, it means: ‘I congratulate you on the beautiful quenelle.’

The tweet is written in French slang but a French linguist told Sportsmail that ‘keunel epaule’ is a text-language spelling for the ‘quenelle épaulée’, referring to the ‘shoulder’ quenelle.

That tweet has also now been deleted by Cameroon defender Assou-Ekotto, 29, but Tottenham issued a statement in response. ‘The matter has been discussed with the player and, while he meant no offence by his post, he accepts this was ill-advised and deleted the tweet,’ it said.

When Sportsmail asked Tottenham to clarify which of the two tweets the statement was referring to, the club replied: ‘It’s referring to any tweets concerning this matter.’

It is understood Assou-Ekotto has adopted the same position as Anelka and Manchester City’s Samir Nasri, who argue that the quenelle is an anti-establishment gesture and not anti-Semitic, though Nasri did apologise for ‘causing any hurt’.

Assou-Ekotto’s advisers stressed last night that he has campaigned against racism since becoming a Tottenham player and has been involved in a number of the club’s community schemes.

The incident comes with the FA under mounting pressure from anti-discrimination groups to charge Anelka following his controversial goal celebration. Piara Powar, executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe, has demanded sanctions against the West Brom striker following the gesture at Upton Park.

It also emerged that Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress, has written to FA chairman Greg Dyke and UEFA president Michel Platini over incidents of anti-Semitism.

Powar said: ‘The fact that the players may have been conned into mimicking something in support of a friend makes it no less a dangerous gesture.

‘The rise of the far right is one of the most dangerous phenomena facing Europe. Whether these are groups of anti-Semites like Dieudonne M’Bala M’Bala, Islamophobic groups like the EDL (English Defence League) or the more usual white power street skinheads, they are active and alive in football.

‘The English FA now has rules against acts by players of this kind and Anelka will no doubt be punished.’

Anelka is under investigation over the incident from his own club, but is free to play until the FA make a decision. However, he is unlikely to play in the home match against Newcastle on Wednesday and has not apologised, though Albion have ordered him not to repeat the gesture.

On Tuesday, the FA were continuing their investigation and were speaking to a number of anti-discrimination groups for their interpretation of events at Upton Park.

The guy should stay until his contract is over and move to France like Malouda did against Chelsea.
Can some one name me any player that is not in the game because of money?

thats if some clubs show interest, of im worried it may not happen

Anelka had to settle for Indian League after his quenelle.

Good luck to Benoit, i had high hopes for him when he and Bale made the left flank their own in that exciting Spurs team that got to Champions League 1/4 finals, along the way tearing Inter a new one.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto declares 'FREEDOM' after Tottenham cancel contract of Cameroon full-back

The defender took to social media by posting separate entries with the caption 'freedom' before also replying to Arsenal fans who enjoyed his posts

Benoit Assou-Ekotto declared "freedom" after he was released from his Tottenham nightmare.

The full-back was released after nine years at White Hart Lane during deadline day, as Spurs decided to cancel his £40,000-a-week contract at the club.

Assou-Ekotto was not even training with the first team.

And when the news broke that they had cancelled his deal with the Capital One Cup finalists, the Cameroonian brilliantly changed his Twitter profile picture to an image with the word 'Freedom'.

He even proceeded to send emojis to Arsenal fans, who appreciated the fact that he was "winding up" Tottenham fans, enraging Spurs supporters even more.

The tweet to @MesutMagic received over 750 retweets and 550 favourites.

But it wasn't just on Twitter where Assou-Ekotto revealed his relief about leaving Spurs - he also posted a 'freedom' image to Instagram.

This time, he used an image showing the famous line from Braveheart.

It makes a nice change from the selection of trainers he regularly uses his Instagram page to show off.

Assou-Ekotto signed for Spurs in 2006 for £3.5million during Martin Jol's time as manager, after impressing for French club Lens.

Last season, he played 30 games for Harry Redknapp in the Championship, but the Rangers' boss decided not to sign him on a permanent basis.

Since returning to Spurs, he has been reduced to the Under-21 squad.

Bye Ekotto. I remember how crap you were when you first came. You then developed and became better and then inexplicably you got worse and dropped. Perhaps it was different manager's tactics but I would add you to the list of players that have played my favorite position at Spurs - ZE Left Back.

His career is over. His actions during the world cup were disgraceful. I read somewhere he said he did not enjoy playing football and that it was just a job for him. He can look for another job now.

Of course they will pay him out. That's the reason why he did not mind training with the U-21 squad.
