Eagles fitness level worries Amokachi

Assistant Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi, has lamented the lack of activity for the home-based players ahead of the team’s tour of Abu Dhabi for friendly games against Cote d’Ivoire and Sudan.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja, the coach said the players were match rusty following the end of the Nigeria Professional Football League. “We have the bulk of the players playing in the Nigeria league, but unfortunately for us, the league is currently on break and the clubs are yet to resume training. “Only Kano Pillars have resumed and that is because of their continental assignment, and we only have two players from Kano Pillars in our squad.
“They (players) are very match rusty and that was why I said if the league is on break you are not going to get players who are really fit, and we just have only seven days which are not enough to prepare the players, but we will do our part and build the team to the level we want for the games,” Amokachi said. The former Nasarawa United coach however said the technical crew would do their best to get the team ready for the two matches next week, while also saying the team can shock star-studded Cote d’Ivoire. Amokachi said: “In football you just have to continue doing your best and what we are doing now is to bring life back to the players’ legs, let us see what we can achieve within the seven days of training before we embark on our trip to Abu Dhabi. He said: “The match against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire will be an opportunity for the boys to shine. The game will be played by 11 players on each side and a lot of things can happen in the game.
“One advantage we have is that the players are very young and feature in the league, I believe they will enjoy playing against the super stars of Cote d’Ivoire, and when you have the opportunity to do that, you want to express yourself and show that you are also a star in the making.” The game against the Elephants, 1992 African champions and Super Eagles’ quarterfinal victims at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, comes up on January 11, while the clash with the Falcons of Sudan comes up on January 17.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics
