FPL Scout Extra: Ighalo providing a sting for the Hornets

Watford striker gives Fantasy Premier League managers a cutting edge at a value price

Watford have made a solid start to life back in the Barclays Premier League, and their striker, Odion Ighalo, could provide a potent attacking threat at Newcastle United this weekend at a low price for Fantasy Premier League managers.
Ighalo, valued at £5million in FPL, got his second goal of the campaign in last weekend's 1-0 win over Swansea City, but their first victory of the campaign was largely based on defensive cohesion.
The Hornets have conceded only four goals in five matches, a figure bettered only by Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, while Quique Sanchez Flores' side sit joint-second for clean sheets (three) in the BPL.
In attack, it is a different story. Watford have managed just 16 shots on target, the fifth-worst record in the BPL, while only Newcastle United have scored fewer.

The Hornets have turned to Odion Ighalo for their cutting edge, and he has delivered two important goals for the promoted club.
His all-round performance and goal against Swansea earned the Nigeria forward three bonus points, boosting his FPL tally to 21, enough for a place among the top 10 forwards.
More significantly, it took Ighalo's haul to 18 goals in 23 league appearances in 2015: no player in England's top four tiers has a better record in the calendar year. That should be enough for FPL managers to start to take notice, particularly when you factor in Ighalo's £5.0million price tag.

At that valuation, Ighalo is in the same bracket as Norwich City's Cameron Jerome (£4.9m) and Everton's Arouna Kone (£5.1m), and Ighalo's key attacking statistics stand up well to his low-cost rivals.
Upcoming fixtures
Watford: NEW (A); CRY (H); BOU (A); ARS (H); STK (A); WHU
Everton: SWA (A); WBA (A); LIV (H); MUN (H); ARS (A); SUN (H)
Norwich City: LIV (A); WHU (A); LEI (H); NEW (A); WBA (H); MCI (A)
The 26-year-old has recorded an attempt every 29.3 minutes - quicker than Jerome and Kone - while he averages 4.4 penalty area touches per match and has a shot accuracy of 41.7%.

In addition, while both Jerome and Kone are far from assured starters in the long term, Ighalo's role as the focal point of the Watford attack looks secure.
Having recently signed a new five-year contact at Vicarage Road, Flores has emphasised his faith in the Nigerian by changing his tactics against Swansea, deploying club captain Troy Deeney (£5.3m) behind Ighalo in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Deeney, who is owned by 3.5% of FPL managers compared with Ighalo's 1.3%, has had 14 unsuccessful attempts on goal this term, with just two on target, whereas his strike partner has netted twice from 12 shots.
Watford's upcoming fixtures include a trip to Newcastle this weekend, with Steve McClaren's side rooted to the bottom of the table after conceding eight goals and earning a single clean sheet so far. That fixture is followed by encounters against Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth, sides who are yet to keep a shutout.
That trio of matches presents Ighalo with the platform to kick on and cement his status as another strong-value option for FPL squads, in a season where the big-ticket assets continue to falter.
