Ex-Arsenal star Kanu arrives in Uganda, watches Cranes - Burkina Faso AFCON qualifier
30 Mar 2016 Edgar Kazibwe

Former Arsenal and Portsmouth star Nwankwo Kanu arrived in Uganda on Wednesday and traveled to Mandela National Stadium to watch Uganda Cranes take on Burkina Faso in their return qualifier game.

Kanu witnessed Cranes pile pressure in the opening half even though the home side settled for a barren draw, their first since October 8, 2013 at Namboole Stadium in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The retired Nigeria international came to inspire the national team and in that spirit, scheduled a visit to Mulago Heart Institute, a football engagement with the kids in the slums of Mulago as well as help identify talent and recommend them to the Chinese super league.

Star Times Vice president in Uganda (marketing wing), Aldrine Nsubuga who welcomed him, said Kanu is part of the bigger picture as plans of a state of art football academy in Uganda brood in the corridors.

This is the second time Kanu is setting foot in Uganda. On his maiden visit, fans defied the usually strict security measures to cuddle, hug and hand shake with the two time English premier league winner (with Arsenal F.C) after Uganda shocked Nigeria.

He will meet FUFA boss, Moses Magogo for bilateral talks before a grand dinner on Friday, 1st April 2016 and will later return to Nigeria on Saturday, 2nd April 2016.
