Peperende needs to hang on in there and revert back to type. Fear saw him move back towards the more conventional, lose the element of the unknown, rendering his approach more predictable. The inverted fullbacks were pretty pointless, but the quadrupled midfield was a ploy that, albeit against weak opposition, seemed to have potential. Long and short of it, City squandered a fortune in the market on names and not necessity. The defence has been did for some time. Investment was needed across the whole backline. Long before they turned to Jesus, they needed a few Peters the Rock of the defence to come in.
