Pulis, Dyche come off jealous criticising Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has completely changed the style and attitude around Liverpool and has them challenging for the title.
West Bromwich Albion and Burnley met on Monday Night Football this week and before the game, Albion boss Tony Pulis fired some shots in the direction of Jurgen Klopp under the pretence of offering support for his Burnley counterpart, Sean Dyche.

Referring to remarks made by Dyche earlier in the season, Pulis said: "That's the way it is, they (foreign managers) come into the country, they're sexy, they're new, they're bright. That's fine, brilliant, not a problem for me. I'll listen to them, they say (Jurgen) Klopp trains them three times a day in pre-season, absolutely amazing. I'd never have thought of that.

"That's what Sean's on about, they do stuff that is astonishing that we've 'never heard of'."

Dyche, much like Pulis and certain other British managers for that matter, appears to have a chip on his shoulder regarding the esteem with which the top foreign coaches are held within the English game.

Let's revisit the initial comments made by Dyche back in August:

"Jurgen Klopp came in and played sort of a 4-4-2 and let's run really hard and press, people thought it was incredible... 'wasn't Sean Dyche doing that years ago when he got here? Oh well'.

Has anybody ever watched Burnley and thought; Wow, that's just like watching a Jurgen Klopp team? Dyche may feel that he's not getting the recognition he deserves, but self-praise is no praise and those comments really did him a disservice, as generally he's always come across as one of the more likeable bosses in the Premier League.

It isn't the "let's run really hard and press" that people think is "incredible", it's the highly efficient and coordinated manner of it and how it has led to Liverpool (not to mention Borussia Dortmund when Klopp was there) to playing of the most exciting, incisive, pleasing on the eye football you'll see anywhere across Europe this season.

Klopp wasn't the only foreign boss Dyche took a swipe at either. "Antonio Conte came in at Chelsea and he got commended for bringing a hard, fast, new leadership to Chelsea, which involved doing 800-metre runs, 400m runs and 200m runs".

"Come to my training and see Sean Dyche doing that and you'd say 'dinosaur, a young English dinosaur manager, hasn't got a clue'. So is it perception or is it fact? I have no problem with it. It's the reality I say."

Clearly he does have a problem with it or he wouldn't have sounded off about it. The same goes for Pulis (who also "doesn't have a problem"), although he rarely needs a second invitation to go down the "foreign coaches get all the love" route. He's second only to Sam "if my name was Allardici I'd be a top four boss" Allardyce when it comes to banging that particular drum.

It's all such bitter sounding nonsense from men who really ought to know better. For goodness sake, Dyche was even referring to himself in the third person. Who does he think he is, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson?

This suggestion that Klopp is merely doing things that British managers have been doing for years is simply not true. Some of the basic principles are the same of course, but anyone trying to claim that the intricacies of what Klopp is currently doing at Liverpool has been done before in this country is either deluded or blinded by envy.

Sean Dyche's comments on Klopp and other foreign managers make the Burnley manager come off quite jealous.

Liverpool are not playing this well because Klopp wants his team to run about a lot and had them doing triple sessions in pre-season. Both are contributing factors, sure, but if it was that simple then anyone could do it. Indeed, according to Dyche, that's what Burnley do. So how come watching Burnley is nothing like watching Liverpool then?

Of course the higher quality of player at Liverpool makes it easier for Klopp to play in such a manner, but let's keep Liverpool's squad strength in some perspective here. Klopp isn't managing a group of "Galacticos" and prior to the season starting most experts had the Reds finishing somewhere between fifth and seventh because they weren't as talented as their rivals.

That may still prove to be the case, but so far they have played the best football and currently sit second in the table. Why is that? Because they are arguably the best coached team in the land, that's why.

Klopp did the same at Dortmund. They didn't have the best players in Europe but for a two or three-year spell they were arguably the best team on the continent. Why was that? Because "they ran about a lot", some would have you believe.

Of course it's true that Klopp places a great emphasis on his players being able to outrun the opposition, but there is far more to Liverpool's game than that.

Despite all the talk of "counter pressing", the Reds are actually a possession based team and they're the top goalscorers in the land. Indeed, whatever stats you want to look at across the top European leagues, you'll see Liverpool riding high in most of the significant categories.

Sneeringly dismissing this as the result of "running" and "triple sessions" is insulting to the work put in by Klopp and his staff, and so lacking in accuracy one can only assume it's borne out of jealousy and resentment.

Tony Pulis and Sean Dyche commenting on Klopp's methods has the same credibility as Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves critiquing Marlon Brando and wondering why he gets all the Oscars.

In other words, Dyche and Pulis are "Bill & Ted" to Klopp's "Godfather".

So, in other words, are Pulis & Dyche implying they're as good as Klopp..??

I sort of agree with Pulis and Dyche. These kinds of misperceptions are in almost every career track. It's quite possible that they're technically as good as Klopp. But they don't have the trust/credibility with the players, management or the public to show it. And when you don't have that, it's hard to perform.

If you ask the average Burnley player who they'd rather play for, they'd likely say Klopp. Why? He has the star power, and abilities he may or may not have are projected on him. That would generally translate into a player putting a bit more into his game for Klopp than he would his current Burnley manager. Multiply that by 11

But the same people praise Eddie Howe for his work at Bournemouth.

Dyce will especially motivated for today's clash. Full English breakfast for Pep, eggs sunny side up, yolk runnier than a clan of Kipkoech's. Vokes, big man up top. Huge.

In any case I like Sean Dyce and he doesn't come across as spiteful or resentful generally.
