On CAF and Sponsorship Funds...

Post by Enugu II »

I do realize that many who open this thread will expect excoriation of CAF and sponsorship of its competitions. However, this is far from it.

I have opened this thread to give kudos to Hayatou and CAF for securing significant prize money for continental competition in its recent deal with Total. From all analysis that I have read so far, the CAF deal is the biggest signed by any continental confederation with the exception of UEFA. CAF payouts is better than what is currently offered by North America and CONCACAF and bigger than CONMEBOL and South America (excepting the special edition of Centenary 2016) and bigger than Asia gets. IMHO, this ought to be lauded.

Perhaps, it has already been discussed here. If not, then my pot is to recognize this deal and mention its significance. Lets compare:

CAF
$4 million for winner. Second, third, and fourth take home $2 million, $1.5 million, and $800K respectively.

ASIA
No prize money but $10 million was proposed just last year to be shared among top three teams. Not sure the conclusion on this.

CONCACAF
Winner takes $1 million and second, third, and fourth get $500K, $200K, and $150K.

UEFA
Winner, if winning all group games, can take home 27 million euros.

CONMEBOL.
2015 account frozen. Special funding for Centenary brought $6.5 million for winner. Second, third, and fourth took home $3.5 million, $3 million, and $2.5 million respectively. Noted as history making payout for Copa.

Though it is good to have a full stadium but TOTAL names the competition e.g. the Total Cup for African Nations. That gets Total's name in all broadcasts to millions at their homes and all over the continent and as you are aware, Total Oil is all over Africa.

Jesus didn't die so we could have religion. He died so we could have a deep, intimate, personal relationship with God.

So it looks like Total will sponsor all CAF competitions which IMO is a great development.

BTW, Kongi club competitions are well attended.

That is because the tickets are cheap and the gates are sometimes left wild open for home fans to fill the stadium. The clubs aren't making any good money off the gate fees.
