Congrats to Oliseh for succeeding in his rescue mission at Fortuna Sittard. Hopefully he'll be able to build on this for next season and push for promotion to the Jupiler League.

Oliseh “Proud” After Fortuna Sittard Draw Vs Besiktas

Image

Fortuna Sittard’s Nigerian manager Sunday Oliseh is proud of his side’s 3-3 draw against Turkish champions Besiktas in Sunday’s pre-season friendly in Istanbul, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Besiktas took the lead through Sedat Sahintürk but Lisandro Semedo who is on trial at Dutch second-tier side Fortuna restored parity for the club few minutes later.

In the second half, new signing André Vidigal gave Fortuna Sittard the lead just after the hour mark but the joy was short-lived three minutes later by Atiba Hutchinson who equalised for the Turkish giants.

Caner Erkin scored what looked like the winner for Besiktas in the 80th minute only for Jorrit Smeets to earn the Dutch side a share of the spoils in stoppage time.

After the game Oliseh took to his Twitter handle to express his delight at his players’ display during the game.

“In Istanbul Besiktas complex after an honourable 3-3 draw with Besiktas. Pre-season friendly match with Fortuna Sittard. Proud of my players,” former Nigeria captain and head coach Oliseh tweeted along with a picture of himself having a meal with Fortuna Sittard colleagues.

Fortuna will play their last friendly match in Turkey against Iranian side ZOB Ahan FC on Tuesday.

Fortuna Sittard kick off their Eerste Divisie campaign with a home game against Dordrecht on the 8th of August.

Oliseh Equals Van Marwijk’s Coaching Record At Sittard
Oliseh Equals Van Marwijk’s Coaching Record At Sittard

August 25, 2017 at 12:07

sunday-editedFortuna Sittard is slowly setting up under Coach Sunday Oliseh. The Limburgers have even reached the highest point average since 1980 under a trainer who has the team at least for twenty-one games in charge.

For the first time since 1998/99 the Limburgers (Fortuna Sittard) have won five home duels in a row,Oliseh therefore equalswith Bert van Marwijk’s performance. It is true that Van Marwijk put up that series in the Eredivisie. In that season, the Limburgers were also twice as strong for Ajax, where Oliseh played both times at the time.

The victory vs FC Dordrecht (5-1) brings Fortuna Sittard to the top of the Jupiler League table. On February 7, 2014, a margin of at least four was reached in an official duel when Telstar were defeated with 5-0.

After twenty matches in service at Fortuna Sittard, Oliseh scored the highest point average (1.65 per duel) and profit percentage (45 percent) of all trainers who had coached the club at least for a similar period since 1980, according to Opta Sports. The seventeenth place in the ranking of last season seems to be surpassed on this foot.

Won 5-1 today. Now second on the table behind Jong Ajax and occupying promotion spot since Jong Ajax can't be promoted to the Eredivisie.

They were close to relegation when he took over last season.
