The on going raid of the chinese for the top talent of players in Europe is just the tip of the Iceberg. There is about to be an avalanche of not only player talent moving to China, but you are about to see the movement of some of the biggest name in coaching and management. What you are witnessing is not some sort of sudden occurrence, its a deliberate policy designed by policy makers in the Chinese government.

US soccer is already at a mid-level of development. Within the next 5 years you will see American teams competing for the same talent that the Chineses are competing for and the Europeans are going to have a difficult time holding on to their best talent. Gaining a healthy share of the American TV market is the gold standard measure of maturity in american sports. Those number are growing with exponential regularity.

This presents a unique oppurtunity for African players. Soon they wont have to go to europe to earn their bona fides. They will soon have 3 or more destinations to go get a very lucrative and promising career in soccer.
I really don't know why we suffer you with your half baked nonsense. I've never seen anyone that keeps clutching at s4!t and calling it scented sponge.

So you think clubs in China can suddenly bridge the tradition and history of the likes of RM, Barcelona, Man United BM, Arsenal etc?
You think suddenly the world would shift from European Champion's League to China or Asian Champions league?
You think clubs in China are set up to produce the next up and coming generation of stars because their academies would have acquired within your specified 10 years the "know how" to groom new talents?
You think the rule of 3 foreigners per team would suddenly see thousands of players the world over moving to China

You think Beijing Smog united versus Ningbo air pollution would be more attractive as a football spectacle compared to Watford v Stoke, talk less of Man City v Man United?

How old are you again?

PaJimoh,

I love it when people hold on to paradigms and those Paradigms crumble right before their eyes ! The only thing consistent in this life is CHANGE !!

Here is a short list of brands that either died or faded or are no longer the only game in town : Blockbuster, Rolls Royce, Converse, the Roman Empire, the British Empire, Rolex, Pan Am, IICC Sooting star, Authur andersen, Oldsmobile, General mills, Boxing, AOL and the list goes on and on....

The money will talk and people will go where the talent is... if the best talent is in China that where all the eye balls are going to go...

Here is a list of New brands that you never say Coming...... Barak Obama, MMA fighting, Google, Microsoft, face book, fox news, Donald trump, China, South korea, ....

The real Question is, how old are you again ?
Like I said you can find examples o buttress your argument but I can assure you if China is going to be the focal point of football in the future, it's not going to happen in the next 10 (TEN) years.

As one doors close another opens. It's the way of things. Brands will rise and fall but there some things that gets stronger with time. You can never get the same taste of a mature wine from a young wine.
EPL, LaLiga, Bundesliga did not get to where they are just because of money. It's a whole lot more than that.
You are full of bazuka joe bubble gum wisdom !!

The mistake you are making is you think China wants to grow only Organically.. They are already showing you their Strategy...buying the biggest names in soccer and presenting them to 1.5 Billion people in their country who are soccer mad. Their home Audience alone dwarfs the whole of Europe's market. Its a different strategy and maybe even a different product. They are already building a movie industry thats going to be bigger than hollywood. Same strategy, hiring all the big hollywood talent. Matt Damon just finished the biggest budget movie in the world there.... Money talks..

Part of your problem is you are only listening to Western Media information..you are not getting Information on whats going on on the other side of the world

You dont think you will be seeing Highlights of Messi and Ronaldo on Youtube and the Evening news every night if they go to China ? All the players and coaches will go where the money is and they will water down the talent glut in Europe. Then the TV ratings and attendance will drop...so will revenue and importance. that is going to be the sign of the times. You dont see the threat, but the Europeans see it. Just watch as events unfold before your eyes...

I dont know what alternative world news you are refrencing, but i dont know one person who thought Japan was going to be the new frontier.

Great players and Coaches from SA, Africa, America, ASIA aspire to go to Europe for one primary reason..MONEY !! Do you think think they care that the money is coming from CHINA ??? They will all head where the money is... they only have a 12 year shelf life as a player if they are lucky. Why waste in a place thats going to pay you less.

When HULK is making the same amount of money as Messi...what is there to say

TOP 5 BEST PAID PLAYERS
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - £18m per year.
Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - £17m per year.
Hulk (Shanghai SIPG) - £17m per year.
Neymar (Barcelona) - £16.2m per year.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United) - £13.6m per year.
=5. Graziano Pelle (Shandong Luneng) - £13.6m per year.

Your assumption is thinking everyone who really wants to make a name for themselves would always go for money. Players from 3rd world countries and other players might put money before all else but I'd like to believe there are those who won't be tempted by money but the aura of playing for great clubs after all it's not like pay peanuts.

I don't want to get into this debate too much but either you were living on some far away planet but Japan was making waves employing European coaches and wowing South American and Europeans into their leagues a few years before they hosted the WC. That was where Wenger was contracted by Arsenal if memory serves me correctly

good luck with getting players who START in TOP teams into their league..
Well what we do know is that they may only just be getting started.

It need not be a player like Messi or Suarez in their prime.

but they could very well get players like KDB, Hazard, Firmino etc in their prime! They have enough resources to incentivize.

The only issue would be the perception of the league. And as I mentioned in the other thread, the number of foreign talents in the Chinese League is actually overstated! But if they continue laying the ground, soon they will create a mirage that quality is there, then players are incentivized on both counts!

Players want three things 1) Money 2) Quality) 3) Prestige. They will never be able to give them the third, but they can easily give them the first, and an imitation of the second. I don't believe that quality can be bought, but I do believe that they can fool people into believing that it can be.

but actually their best bet would be to leave things as they are now. Their ultimate objective should be growing the game in China. The Chinese economy is more volatile than people think, they cannot sustain this model. If they actually lure too many talents into the league, that would be counterproductive. They would lose the balance of not having enough Chinese shirts.

Unless their end objective is just to make a lot of noise.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Fact is nothing stays the same for years. The English Premier League was not always the place for top talent to go. We should remember when it was Italy. There is nothing wrong if China becomes the next destination and it is possible as long as there is MONEY to attract players to form the critical mass that then easily get the best talents moving towards China. In terms of marketing dollars Asia is already moving towards No.1 if not there already, ahead of Europe. Thus, China is getting to become the destination for top talent is not far fetched. However, authorities in China have actually frowned against the talent recruitment strategy, which means there is no certainty that it will go on without being obstructed. We should wait and see. But to think that it is impossible in China makes no sense. It is indeed possible anywhere as long as a critical mass of stars is attracted, just the way China is doing it.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

It is not a question of whether it is possible or not but the time span ascribed to such occurrence.

I don't know about you but some of us know about the English League long before the EPL. The FA cup is also a famous cup and I used to watch a program called "Road to Wembey" in Nigeria a very long time ago.

My point is EPL did not just happen. it had been coming for decades. The leagues in Europe, as you mentioned, did not just happen, even though popularity shifts from one country to another.

China may yet be the next football hot spot but I don't think 10years is enough to dismantle Europe's place as the home of global soccer.

The Chinese themselves have tied to growth by insisting on maximum of 3 foreigners and an Asian per club. Are you likely to see a team like Galaticos Real Madrid with only 3 foreigners and the rest Chinese players?

Is the CL likely to be usurped by anything Asian? There's still a lot of life in the old dog yet
