Mikel was substituted because he was not fully match fit, not because Rohr is "looking to the future"

Rohr knows that no Nigerian midfielder can shine Mikel's boots, whether Mikel hasn't even played a club match in months, or whether he is playing in China or on the Moon.

He is SE best midfielder BY FAR.

In fact he is SE best player of any position BY FAR.

People keep trying to hate on Mikel and downplay his importance. These people do not understand football AT ALL.
Unfortunately, this is true.

I won't say 'by far' but definitely Mikel is still our best midfielder if we're talking about recent appearances for Nigeria be it WCQs or his performances last year in the Olympics. He was subbed out late in games because he wasn't fit. Nobody was being phased in when he was being subbed out. Do we we have a number of young promising talents? Certainly. Ndidi is a very good prospect and so is Etebo. But meanwhile, Rohr has Mikel and Onazi that bring football ability and experience. The only way either is dropped for the young ones especially against a bruising Cameroon unit is if either is injured unless Rohr chooses to go with 3 CMs to start a game for his first time as SE Coach which adds Ndidi to complete the trio.
