By the way, what about James Rodriguez? Is he really enjoying being a bench warmer at Real? This was a guy that blew up at a World Cup and he's warming bench. Surely he can find another team to get regular playing time. :???: :???:

These two teams are a credit to their leagues and country. Both teams went up in my estimation after this match. The intensity was breathtaking. Kudos for Atletico for making a game of it. Most teams 0-3 down against Read Madrid would give up. Not Atletico. The way they pressed and harassed Real at the start of that match like rabid dogs was something else. They did everything to unsettle Real: left their foot in, surrounded the ref and screamed for him to get the cards out every time a Real player tackled them back, and they tried to provoke the Real players into retaliation (the tried and trusted Barcelona method). I saw Gabi slyly shoulder barge Danilo off the ball in an attempt to provoke him and get him to retaliate (at the time the ball was about 20 yards away - having gone out for a corner!).

Massive respect to Real for the way they stood up to Atletico's physical play and attempts to steamroller them. A less mentally strong team may have capitulated after going 0-2 down after 15 minutes (PSG - we are looking at you!). They did back down from Atletico, were never intimidated, and used their superior technical ability to keep possession, make Atletico chase them around and tire, and just gradually weathered the Atletico storm. Modric is a small guy (and sometimes looks like someone's kid sister) but his technique , passing, and spatial awareness were brilliant.

This game a was a brilliant advert for football and the Champions League.
