Onyekuru to Miss Corsica Game, arrives for Togo

SCORENigeria can exclusively reveal that Henry Onyekuru will not be available for selection for the Super Eagles friendly against Corsica in Ajaccio on Friday because that will be the same day he will join the team’s training camp as he looks set to finalise his transfer from Belgian club KAS Eupen.

A top source informed only SCORENigeria Onyekuru has told him the earliest he will be with the Eagles in France will be Friday.

“Onyekuru told me he can only be with the Eagles in France on Friday, so he is effectively ruled out for the match against Corsica the same day,” the source revealed.

The Eagles will face Togo on June 1 in Paris in a second friendly and Onyekuru could well make his debut in that game.

Onyekuru, 19, has been one of the biggest discoveries in Europe this season after he scored a total of 24 goals in all competitions in Belgium.

He is lightning-fast, packs a good shot and plays as a left winger, right winger or centre-forward.

His goals have earned him a first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles after he was named as a late replacement for Austria-based striker Olanrewaju Kayode, who is tied down by club engagements.

His goals rush has also caused a scramble by no less than five Premier League clubs in England for his signature.

His future is expected to be decided shortly, sources further informed SCORENigeria
Kayode Now to Appear in Corsica Camp

Austria Wien striker Olanrewaju Kayode will now team up with the Super Eagles squad at the Paris international Airport on Tuesday after he was initially withdrawn due to club commitments for the friendlies against Corsica and Togo.

Kayode, who made his Eagles debut against Senegal in March, was in the initial squad list released this month, but was the withdrawn few days after due to club commitments.

However, on Sunday evening after a discussion between his club coach Thorsten Finks and Gernot Rohr, an agreement was reached, and now the player will leave Austria on Monday night to join the travelling contingent from Nigeria on Tuesday in Paris as they depart same day for Corsica.

Kayode’s last match for his Austrian club was therefore Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Wolfsberger FC.

His club have already secured a UEFA Europa League ticket for next season with two rounds of matches to spare.
Imama Dropped: Will Miss Camp in Corsica

Super Eagles contingent will leave for France later today but without assistant coach Imama Amapakabo because officials said the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)cannot afford to buy his flight ticket.

SCORENigeria has specially gathered that the coach who led Rangers to win the NPFL in style last season paid for his visa fee, like other officials, only to later be informed he will not be flying out to France because the NFF do not have the cash to buy his flight ticket.

Several other Eagles backroom staff suffered a similar fate.

“It’s very shameful how Imama was treated as regards the trip to France,” a source lamented to SCORENigeria

“he spent his money to pay for the visa fee after the NFF said they do not have the cash to do so. And then to add salt to injury, he will now not travel to France.”

SCORENigeria further learnt on-off friendly against Togo in Paris was a result of the alleged poor finances of the NFF.

Expenses for Friday’s friendly against Corsica in Ajaccio will be borne by the host team, officials have said.

Chief coach Salisu Yusuf will lead out four players from the NPFL – Stephen Odey, Alhassan Ibrahim ‘Muazzam’, Sikiru Olatunbosun and Ikechukwu Ezenwa – to Paris by 11pm today from Lagos.
Visa Issues: Ogu Could MIss Camp

John Ogu will not travel to France for a training camp with the Super Eagles owing to visa issues, scorenigeria.com understands.

And as a result, the big defensive midfielder is set to miss the friendly games against the French island of Corsica in Ajaccio and the Hawks of Togo in Paris.

“I’m not sure he (Ogu) will make the trip as he doesn’t have a valid Schengen visa,” a source revealed to SCORENigeria

Ogu, who scored the goal that earned his club Hapoel Be’er Sheva the Israeli league title for the second year running, is presently in the country, following a successful season in Europe.

Already, Victor Osimhen and Henry Onyekuru are out of the Corsica, while Germany-based defender Leon balogun is an injury doubt after he was forced out of a Bundesliga game at the weekend.

Osimhen is involved in a relegation/promotion playoff with Wolfsburg, while Onyekuru will only join the Eagles training camp on the day of the Corsica clash.

The question is now Kayode whom Onyekuru is suppose to replace is now honoring the invitation what happens to Onyekuru invitation. Is it still valid or nullified ? Kayode change of mind reminds me a commercial one guy was calling sick in the morning his boss told him he can take as many days as possible because they gonna use Bob a substitute staffing agency for his place while he is out sick. The guy replied he is feeling a lot better right away he rather comes to work than calling off sick.

Akpeyi, it appears, is one of big guns given rest time from France Camp. He belongs in the group with Victor Moses, Ogenyi Onazi, and Omeruo.
Akpeyi One of Big Guns Rested To Wait Till South Africa Game....Headline added.

Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu has said he expects South Africa-based shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi to join the team on June 3 in time for an AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa.

Akpeyi has deputised for first-choice Carl Ikeme, who is again injured, but he was overlooked for forthcoming friendlies against Corsica and Togo.

“He was left out to focus at his club and now that the league will soon be over, he will be available again,” Agu said.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa and youngster Dele Alampasu are the goalkeepers named for the friendlies in France.

Onyekuru Changes Plan: Arrives Corsica Camp Today
http://scorenigeria.com.ng/2017/05/23/a ... les-today/

KAS Eupen of Belgium goal machine Henry Onyekuru has told scorenigeria.com.ng he has changed his travel plans and will now be in Eagles training camp in France today ahead of the friendly matches against Corsica and Togo.

We earlier reported the Arsenal target will only join the squad in France on Friday, which would have effectively ruled him out of the Corsica friendly same day.

SCORENIGERIA World Exclusive – Arsenal open transfer talks for Onyekuru

Onyekuru, who enjoyed a very prolific season with his modest Belgian team, also said he cannot wait to make his anticipated debut for Nigeria.

“I will now join Eagles camp in France today. I am looking forward to being in camp and to make my debut,” Onyekuru told scorenigeria.com.ng

The 19-year-old forward was last night nominated at the Belgium football awards.

He lost in the Young Player of the Year Award.

Leicester City young player of the season Wilfred Ndidi was Tuesday morning spotted at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Ndidi was at the Legacy training pitch where he posed for pictures with some fans.

FCNaija.com gathered that Ndidi briefly breezed into the town to give moral support to his boyhood club Nath Boys.

It is not clear what travel plans Ndidi has as he is in the roster of players for the Corsica and Togo friendly games billed to take place in France.

The Corsica game is billed for Friday while the Togo game billed for Paris is fixed for June 1st

I wish Alampusa can display some exquisite and scintillating goal keeping during the upcoming friendlies that will make it tough for Rohr to pick Akpeye over him in spite of his short experience . Honestly Akpeyi does not inspire any confidence . He fidgets inordinately in all the matches I have watched him. I wonder why Daniels our Olympics goal keeper has not been called up at all . He commands more respect in his goal keeping abilities than Akpeye. Ikpeme seems to be a chronic injured goalkeeper thus can not counted on. I hope that department does not cause us one of the qualifications.

Akpeyi maybe just need more experience and playing time to further raise/grow his confidence – and by hook or crook he is slowing getting it - kept against Egypt Algeria and Senegal –

personally I think he got the physical attributes and talent – just needs to stay calm and relaxed in goal- Enyeama was similar even after 2002 wcup but gradually grew into the role.

And Him in goal against south Africa(country where he plays his league football) can actually be the turning point for his career

In 2002 Vince was a teenager at the wc. Akpeyi is almost 30yrs old and he is still not as good as Vince was in 2002.

personally i only started believing in Vince after 2010 Wcup ie 8yrs after. goalkeeping role is not about teenager - development can vary - that why some peak late into career.

in the same vein i expect him to know weak and strong points of the SA players - expect him to communicate this with defenders on how to manage them.

walesvilla,

Several of those South African players, like Nigerian players do not play in South Africa and thus Akpeyi may not be familiar with them. However, I have to acknowledge that Akpeyi's best game for SE was in fact in a friendly against South Africa where he also saved a penalty kick.

75% their players are home based as compared to Nigeria

Team Leaves Paris for Ajaccio at 7pm Tonight Headline changed
http://scorenigeria.com.ng/2017/05/23/e ... accio-7pm/

The Super Eagles will jet out to the French island city of Ajaccio by 7pm tonight from Paris, officials have informed SCORENigeria

A contingent from Nigeria led by chief coach Salisu Yusuf flew out of Lagos last night and they are already in Paris.

Several backroom staff including assistant coach Imama Amapakabo were left out of this trip because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)claim they can afford to fly them out.

The Europe-based call-ups for the friendlies against Corsica on May 26 and Togo on June 1 are expected to them up with this party for the flight to Ajaccio.

Austria-based Olanrewaju Kayode and late call-up Henry Onyekuru are among the players who plan to meet the team today in Paris for the onward trip to Ajaccio tonight.

The Eagles expenses will be borne by the hosts.

Nigeria take on a Corsica ‘national team’ at the Stade Francois Coty in Ajaccio starting from 8pm on Friday.

Hoping Alampasu can step up to the plate. Daniel just hasn't got the composure required. Any chance we are going to see the game live?

I am not sure that Daniel is currently starting for his South African club but I could be wrong. Playing regularly at your club is somewhat helpful. Both Daniel and Alampasu, how many games have they played for their clubs? Are they the only options out there?
