Ngolo Kante: An Extraordinary...
Ngolo Kante: An Extraordinary...
water carrier...
A top player in his role, with incredible range of coverage of the field. But still a water carrier...
It doesn't make his contribution any less important; but what he is, is what he is...
The extraordinary coverage and ball winning ability, while by itself important, the greatest value of his contribution lies in what it allows his team to do.
That is by definition a water carrier!
The English have a rich history and well founded experience in hyping players beyond their abilities, going all the way back..."Super Mac", Terry Butcher, Terry McDermott, Bryan Robson, Ray "Squareball" Wilkins, Paul Scholes, etc, etc...
In the FA Cup final, which is not the primary basis for my reaching this conclusion (cus I've watched him all season and before then with France), AW's positioning of Ozil, relative to Ramsey, and the interplay with Xhaka in the 2nd build-up phase, enabled Arsenal repeatedly send Kante on a fools errand. Importantly, it enabled Ramsey to constantly attack the space between left CD of Chelski...
The only player currently who comes slightly close to Kante in coverage is Madrid's Casemiro. But while the Brazilian has the technical range to play for a Barcelona for instance, the Frenchman comes up short.
Let there be no misunderstanding. I like Ngolo Kante. I am happy for him that he has won such massive recognition in England.
But he is by function and definition a watercarrier. Not a world class player by any stretch of the imagination...

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

The guy can actually play, is a former winger and has very good control and dribbling skills, with a decent passing range. He is a lot more than a water carrier.

I think the English press likes get in there players...Caseimero, plays exactly like Mikel...the champs league final vs Athletico Madrid that's when u noticed their similarities. .However yesterday, Conte never should have started Matic......Kante was the only player in the midfield. .when cesc came it we saw a much improved Kante

He is not by himself a difference maker. His contributions create the platform for others to make the difference.
That by definition is a water carrier.
It is not a slight to be called a water carrier.

You think intercepting the opponent's play is not 'making a difference'?

The only picture I see beside the word water carrier in a dictionary is Mikel. I'm sure you guys know how much in love I'm with reading and memorizing dictionaries. Thus I can authoritatively state Kante has never been describe as water carrier. His name is not synonymous as a water carrier. Mba nu

Does playing for Barca mean a player is world class or all players who play for Barca are world class?
Define world class player?

@Oga Chief Tx, nno! And of those playing central midfield roles. Some would argue, even the great Busquets chaperoned the water for the Iniestas and Xavis. To suggest Kante is merely a Obiesta is to dismiss the facts and focus purely on the obvious, overlooking the unspoken. Kante is a bidirectional maestro, not only carrying the water but adding the ice and cordial.

Stop comparing Mikel with that Butcher(Casemiro). As much as I hate to say this but Mikel was always a fair player. Casemiro is lucky that he is playing for real madrid otherwise he will be a red card machine.Bigpokey24 wrote:I think the English press likes get in there players...Caseimero, plays exactly like Mikel...the champs league final vs Athletico Madrid that's when u noticed their similarities. .However yesterday, Conte never should have started Matic......Kante was the only player in the midfield. .when cesc came it we saw a much improved Kante
