Re: UYO CAMP: Onyekuru makes it count.....
I keep wondering do performances during practice matches influence coaches to change an established starting lineup ?
Re: UYO CAMP: Onyekuru makes it count.....
How come Onyekuru since he joined the team dazzles during practice matches but fails to do so during real matches? The last time in preparation for Togo's match he received an outstanding review but performed poorly during the actual match against Togo.Enugu II wrote:Top Performers In Eagles Training – Iheanacho’s Penalty Cancels Out Onyekuru’s Strike In Test Game

STUART BAXTER SURPRISED BY MOOD IN THE BAFANA CAMP
http://africanfootball.com/news/712827/ ... afana-camp
by Phumzile Ngcatshe
Wednesday Jun 07, 2017. 15:00
South African senior national team coach Stuart Baxter says he is surprised by the team's morale ahead of their crucial encounter against Nigeria.
The two African powerhouses are set to renew their rivalries in a 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday in Nigeria.
Although Baxter is faced with a number of injuries in players such as Andile Jali, Tokelo Rantie, Tiyani Mabunda, Aubrey Ngoma and Rivaldo Coetzee, team doctor Thulani Ngwenya believes the players will recover in time for the clash.
However, the Bafana Bafana mentor says he doesn't want to kill the vibe in his camp and will opt for uncomplicated match tactics.
“There is a buzz, they are sharp. I don't want to kill that, I want to keep it bubbling and make sure we take that with us," said Baxter to reporters.
"I think one of the important things is we retain energy, it's been a long season for a lot of the players.
“This is a big game, we have to be fresh mentally and physically and we have to have a simple tactical game-plan.
“They don't need a coach standing around throwing more and more information at that which makes them have to think every step of the way.
"They need to be fresh, go to Nigeria and be optimistic, play with energy. It is the situation we got, because I've just come in, so I don't think it's a wise move to make it overcomplicated."
The clash in Uyo at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium will be staged on Saturday evening at 18:00 (CAT).

Super Eagles have received a massive cash boost after they were paid a win bonus of $5,000-a-man for last year’s World Cup win in Zambia, officials have disclosed.
The Eagles soared past Zambia 2-1 in Ndola in October.
They have now been paid according to president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick.
“I can confirm to you that the team have been paid the bonus for the Zambia match,” Pinnick told Cool FM Wednesday morning.
“We are now looking at the appearance fees for the friendlies against Senegal and Togo.”
The Eagles are entitled to $2000 each as appearance fee for a friendly.
SCORENigeria first reported the Eagles will be paid the World Cup bonus before Saturday’s clash against South Africa.
The players will be paid $5,000-a-man if they beat South Africa on Saturday in Uyo.

Eagles Training Game – Ogu Steals The Show As Rohr Experiments With Three At The Back
June 7, 2017 Nigeria
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/06/07/ea ... -the-back/
All eyes was feasted on Hapoel Be’er Sheva midfield powerhouse John Ogu who for the second day lined up as a centre back in Training with the Super Eagles ahead of their clash against South Africa on Saturday.
The Eagles lined up with Rohr breaking up the near perfect central defence partnership between Chidozie Awaziem and William Troost-Ekong in favour of a back three style of defence in the practice game that ended 0-0.
Although Alampasu put in some fine save and showed awareness to pluck crosses, the main star of the show was John Ogu who was commanding as part of a back three comprising of Awaziem and Elderson Echiejile.
Ogu occupied the left side of the three centre backs and dominated Henry Onyekuru and Victor Osimhen in aerial duels, with Ahmed Musa’s pace the only worry he had throughout the session.
His constant barking out of instructions also helped Awaziem who played as his pair in central defence put in a commendable shift, while for the other team Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo were returned as centre back pairings just like they did against Zambia in Ndola.

Top Five Performance In Eagles Training – Ndidi Stars, Mu’azam, Omeruo & Ogu In Top Three
June 7, 2017 Nigeria
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/06/07/to ... top-three/
Akwa United star forward Alhassan Ibrahim is making inroads with the senior national team of Nigeria , with the lanky forward putting up another strong performance in training today despite coming on after the session has started.
Mu’azam replaced Uche Agbo few minutes into the session, and his abilities to pick out his man with well weighted passes even in tight situations earned him applause from the spectators who chanted “Kanu”, whenever he is on the ball.
Kenneth Omeruo who had his first training session with the team paired William Troost-Ekong and put in a strong shift which frustrated Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, and to a large extent Oghenekaro Etebo.
Omeruo was particularly impressive in winning tackles neatly and helping in turning defence into attack for his team, who were very much pack filled with players who are either new or freshers in the team.
John Ogu picked up from where he stopped in yesterday’s session with another solid performance at the heart of the defence, as part of a back three with Chidozie Awaziem and Elderson Echiejile as his partners.
Ogu was dominant in aerial duels, and picking out long range passes. His size also helped him barge players off the ball with minimal fuss despite playing in central defence as opposed to his original role as a defensive midfielder.
Ahmed Musa is also proving that his poor form for Leicester City isn’t an issue as he was once again one of the liveliest players during the session with his pace proving to be the only problem Ogu had in defence.
Wilfred Ndidi had a captain performance in the midfield dovetailing nicely with captain Ogenyi Onazi, with Onazi allowing him the space to push further up the pitch, where he can be deadly with his shooting abilities.

Ogu as a centre back doesn't sound like such a bad idea.
I wonder how good a tackler he is and how good his positional awareness is.....

The tackling could be an issue but he already plays DM where he is expected to win a lot of balls. If he has good positional sense at CD, he will more likely be a better passer of the ball from the back than Ekong, Balogun, and Omeruo. A huge difference considering that passing out of the back is indeed an issue with our CD. It is same with Obi Mikel who, I stated several years ago, will make a wonderful center back.
