Zanzibar Application is a test for FIFA.....

Post by Enugu II »

If it goes through, it will be a rare approval for a region that does not have national status in the UN. It will be similar to the status FIFA grants he likes of Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Zanzibar was admitted as a full Confederation Of African Football (Caf) member in March.
Tanzania's Football Federation (TFF) president, Jamal Malinzi, has confirmed Zanzibar's fresh bid to become a member of Fifa.

Zanzibar, which is officially part of Tanzania but has its own government, was given unanimous approval at the Confederation of African Football's general assembly in March.

The archipelago has long hoped to become a member of the international football community and had its previous application rejected by Fifa in 2005.

"Following admission of Zanzibar into CAF, TFF has now formally submitted application for Zanzibar to become a member of FIFA.," TFF president Malinzi wrote on his official Twitter account on Sunday.

The Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) has already fulfilled a crucial requirement which states that national associations must be affiliated to continental confederations before they can join Fifa.

Should Fifa accept Caf's 55th member association, then it will become the 212th member association of world football's governing body.

It will also be granted the right to vote on global football issues and the national team will be able to take part in the 2022 World Cup qualifying competition.

Zanzibar was previously an associate member on the continent, allowing its clubs to play in Caf competitions but its national team was excluded.

The semi-autonomous territory is expected to participate in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Since FIFA is a confederation of confederations. They should just approve since CAF already did.

Its not quite rare then with the examples you have given.

amafolas,

I believe (?) the federations that I mentioned above were all grandfathered at the start of FIFA.

If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement....Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. Have you seen the European World Cup qualifying tables?

If Djibouti and Somalia were in Europe, they would have a chance at qualifying.

Excellent point. People always harp on about the "superiority" of European football and use Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and Belgium as the general standard and forget about the general dross that exists below that level. Malta, the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, and San Marino usually concede cricket scores every game. To give you an indication of how bad some of these teams are, San Marino have won 1 of their last 137 games. San Marino have scored 1 away goal in 15 years. Gibraltar has won 1 game in their last 22 (against Malta).
