Etebo and Onazi sucked the most. Simon was serviceable, but he will be attacted because there was no creativity in the midfield.vancity eagle wrote:9jaMan wrote:The coach should be fired, Simon Moses should not be in the SE, how can you ignore onyekuru the hottest player in Belgium?1naija wrote:They can't play forever. Nigeria 0-2 South Africa
Nigeria must have had at least 80% possession but no penetration.
Mikel & Moses would have made big difference in a game like this.
Mikel would have provided a killer pass and Moses will terrorise them on the wings.

Simon was our best attacker BY FAR.
Don't know why people are attacking Ndidi. He did his job to a T.
Re: Nigeria Miss Mikel & Moses
Simon's decision to shoot wildly when there was no path to goal led to the 2nd goal which put the match beyond our young charges.vancity eagle wrote:9jaMan wrote:The coach should be fired, Simon Moses should not be in the SE, how can you ignore onyekuru the hottest player in Belgium?1naija wrote:They can't play forever. Etebo was playing well until we conceded, after which he started trying to do too much. The team as a whole lacked composure and leadership.marutimon wrote:Etebo and Onazi sucked the most. Thanks a lot. For the part I watched (first half) that was what I saw before I left because the game was not exciting to me.Cristao II wrote:Not sure if Nigeria misses them or if it was the tactical setup. Players like Iwobi, Kele looked lost and without direction. I couldnt understand the long balls and the persistence with using them when that route was clearly not working.

Re: Nigeria Miss Mikel & Moses
Bros, you probably arrived at this via projection. I was taking data of the game. Both Onazi and Etebo had far better data than Ndidi. Ndidi turned the ball over several times in that first half. Sure, he improved in the second half but he was far from stellar. He did take three shots at goal but none of them hit the target! Hopefully, you will have the time to watch a recording.marutimon wrote:Etebo and Onazi sucked the most. Only if by "attack" you mean dribbling and then punting the ball out of bounds...vancity eagle wrote:Simon was our best attacker BY FAR.
Anyway, the fact that he's even in the "best attacker" discourse epitomizes how crappy our attack was.

The highlighted is just an excuse. We had the hyped foreign-based players and yet we cannot beat a team of locally-based South Africans in a home game in Nigeria?

The subsequent implosion was shocking - SA could easily have scored 4 or 5.

This hatred on CE for Onazi is baffling. This guy was a warrior today and one of the best SE on display. Ndidi was MIA. Yet, he escapes criticism, ditto Iwobi, excuses are made for him.
I am happy

the problem with Simon, he dribbles and acts busy, but he is actually disrupting the attacking flow of the team and giving opposition defenders time to react, when the SE played without Simon and Musa starting you could see the attacking flow in the team, even making semi junk players like etebo look good, Simon made all the other attackers look worthless today,

Even though we dominated play before the South African goal it was shocking that we did not offer any real threat and Khune was virtually undisturbed.

Absolute nonsense. There was NO best player! I wish I could put together all Onazi's touches and absent-minded positioning today. Some people just no sabi ball. Onazi, Awazi, Ekong, Nacho, Iwobi, Akpeyi were all crap today.9jaMan wrote:Onazi was the best player for SE today without a doubtDammy wrote:This hatred on CE for Onazi is baffling. Go and watch the match and come back! which player was disrupting the SA game and winning balls, which player was spraying passes all over the field? Very annoying guy!
Re: Nigeria Miss Mikel & Moses
It's easy to focus on the symptoms and forget the root cause which was a very well-coached South Africa team that got its tactics spot on. It reminds me of the match between Manchester United and Chelsea that made the Champions book very ordinary.

I saw this coming when I noticed Ogu and Omeruo were excluded from the line up.

Re: Nigeria Miss Mikel & Moses
We need a new coach, play the best players, it's the only way, if the team tried and lost it will be understandable, but this team played like they were the away team and they were scared to score. Onyekuru and Simon play in the same league, and the better player by all ratings is excluded from the squad?Eaglezbeak wrote:So Nigeria isn't ready!

They are all biased, I still haven't seen anyone complaining about how Iwobi not creating a thing but kept losing the ball over and over again, cuz he is one of the beloved, though he sucks game after game.Dammy wrote:Go and watch the match and come back! which player was disrupting the SA game and winning balls, which player was spraying passes all over the field?
