Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango has been named in the Best XI of match day one of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Road to Cameroon kicked off over the weekend with Onyango inspiring the Cranes to a 1-0 away win against Cape Verde in Praia on Sunday.

The African Player of the Year based in Africa is the only player from Uganda on the team that has not more than one representative from a particular country.

How the Team lines up

Denis Onyango starts in goal for the side following his heroics against the Cape Verde in which he made two match-winning saves in the game.

Defence

In defence, Ghana’s John Boye who was in good form as the Black Stars thrashed Ethiopia 5-0 is named alongside North Africans Al Maaloul of Tunisia and Algeria’s Rami Bensebani in a three-man backline.

Midfield

The midfield has four players with Guinea’s Naby Keita and DR Congo’s Cedric Bakambu playing through the centre while Burkina Faso’s new kid on the block Bertrand Traore and Paul Voavy of little known Madagascar on the right and left side of midfield respectively.

Forwards

Zimbabwe’s Knowledge Musona, the only player to score a hat trick over the weekend against Liberia starts through the centre flanked by Senegal’s Moussa Sow and Ivory Coast’s Seydou Doumbia.

The Best XI:

Denis Onyango (Uganda), John Boye (Ghana), Al Maaloul (Tunisia), Rami Bensebani (Algeria), Naby Keita (Guinea), Cedric Bakambu (DR Congo), Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso), Paul Voavy (Madagascar), Knowledge Musona (Zimbabwe), Moussa Sow (Senegal) and Seydou Doumbia (Ivory Coast).

I know, they can beat Egypt.
But they have to work on an attacking outlet like Cameroon's.
Uganda Cranes are flying at 45%! When the attack kicks in and the organization stays solid, they will rule Africa.

The top 12 goalies in Uganda are top notch!
Ugandan defenders are great game readers. I wish they would score more goals.
The forwards are good too. The MFs need good coaching, ere direction in transition from defence to attack.

Apparently, I'm not alone.
