Bellerin - Ozil makes everything so much easier

18 Nov 2017

The Germany playmaker claimed the 45th assist of his Arsenal career when setting up Shkodran Mustafi’s opener, and made more key passes than anyone on the pitch at Emirates Stadium.

Hector Bellerin spoke about Ozil’s influential performance, beating Tottenham and setting the bar high after the game:

on whether he’s ever seen Ozil play better in an Arsenal shirt…
Mesut is someone who gets a lot of criticism, but the players who are around him are very happy to have him and play with him. He makes things easy for you. People sometimes talk about his body language, but he gives everything for this shirt. The players who play around him know that he makes everything so much easier.

on beating Spurs…
It feels really good. We’ve been working really hard over the past week. Obviously we had people going to play internationals and playing for their lives ahead of the World Cup, so it’s been a hard few days. We’ve done really well and we’ve shown what we’ve worked on. I’m proud and very pleased for everyone.

on whether that’s the standard we have to hit every week…
Of course. That’s what we’re trying to do. Sometimes, for different reasons, we haven’t been able to do it, but this is how we set the bar and show what potential we have. That’s what we’ve got to work hard to do every single week, week in, week out.

on whether we approached this as the most important game of the season…
After a tough start, we were building up really well with good results. There’s always a lot of talk but I think it was one of those games where we showed what we could do. We shut some mouth as well. There are people who talk a lot and now, after watching that game at home, they’ll be thinking that these guys have a chance.

on whether the talk of a power shift in the build-up hurt a bit…
Not at all. You have to talk on the pitch, not in the media. That’s how we do it.

Ozil's defensive stats today - distance covered, tackles attempted, successful tackles etc don't differ much from the usual he produces from game to game.

Every man and his dog is shouting today that Ozil worked hard for 2 reasons:

- Arsenal played well today as a team especially defensively - were compact, pressed in a coordinated way and made no defensive mistakes

and secondly but sadly for many sheepish fans

- The pundits have focused on Ozil today and decided to show everyone how he is working hard. Something they will not mention or point out when Arsenal are having a bad day

Anybody who disagrees should pull up Ozil's Arsenal career averages, or even this season averages and compare them to this game.

Led by the agenda driven press this player has been nothing but a scapegoat for everything wrong at Arsenal, every player has good and bad days but in his time here Ozil has pulled his weight and the Stats have shown over the years he works harder than most of his equivalents at rival clubs....Silva, Hazard, Coutinho etc...
Ozil puts in a technical masterclass in finding space, accuracy and weight in passing but comments only about workrate!! These commentators/pundits/journos are just on about how great his work rate has been today. English football in a nutshell

Why pay for a thinking player and then expect him to perform like a Robbie Savage?

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

Making sense as usual. The excessive and particularly irritating hounding of Ozil by these collection of ex-players called pundits just makes me not bother. I read some mof these people like Bellamy severely criticize Ozil for his game against England, while calling Loftus-Cheek the real deal, only for me to watch the game and see Mesut assist the German goal with a lovely sublime pass. I then watched the game for several more minutes, and saw he hardly put a foot wrong. I then wondered why Bellamy would choose to single out Ozil to blame for the only goal the English team scored.

You come on this forum to read and enjoy some real fan talk, only to see ceaseless childish tantrums about Ozil every game whether he plays well or not. One just moves on and finds something else to read.

Like you rightly said, this guy has played like this for Arsenal many times, but people simply choose the narrative that suits their agenda. One thing I love about Ozil is that he does try to ignore these people, and simply do what he can.
 :???: The game was goalless. Every other thing you wrote was on point though.
Thank you for the correction, Slyk, I got my facts mixed up there.

So is Wenger gonna beg Ozil sign a contract and Alexis?
One thing I notice and people don't want to admit why all this bashing take place which is rightly so about Arsenal is that yesterday we put in a performance that gans want .The scoreline was not a fair score line in this game, spurs were lucky but can we do it consistently? Why is the team blow hot and cold every now and then?
So how come we can't do this regularly?
Is it the players or Wenger ?

He’s a class act. Just because he doesn’t charge around like a headless chicken he’s seen as lacking commitment. Utter tosh.
And if this is not consistency maybe i need to go back to school:
Mesut Ozil has created 34 chances for his team-mates this season - more than any other player in the Premier League
Just imagine if half or even 25% of these chances have been converted.

All hail the assists King:

Mesut Ozil has now 200 assists in his career. Don’t you ever compare him to De Bruyne or Eriksen. Greatest attacking midfielder of all time. pic.twitter.com/rGj4EhsGMI

3 Great performances per year won't win you a title.
The problem with Arsenal is that ... we all know, many many many stinkers are coming ...
Every team, every player has one good games once in a while ...
HELL a broken clock is right twice a day. The problem with Arsenal fans is ... they are believe we have won any trophy ... because we beat Spurs ... Some players are supposed to get paid for having ONE good game !!! Duh ...

The cowards who exposed their pathetic self here have shown up from their hovels with abuse. Typical. They are yellow and pathetic. They abuse and insult Wenger when the loses, the team wins a huge derby, the s***showers have no decency or class to give credit where it us due.

Cannot celebrate a NLD win, but they try to remind us of their stupidity and ignorance that made them write off the team they claim they support. Like we Gooners say about these so called supporters in my part of the Emirates. These are not supporters, they are scum. Only a scum will write off Arsenal or wish they lose a NLD.

When the derby comes, all divisions are forgotten and we unite as one against the enemy. That's how true Arsenal support roll. Go read Arsenal twitter and see what they are doing to those journos who dared pick a Tottenham player in their so called combined 11.

I cannot stand cowards. The cowards here know themselves. You lot can shove it where the sun don't shine.

Sometimes I think you were dropped on your head as a child. You are one of those bait and cry Lil Biatches who keeps prodding and poking until you get smacked and then roll into a fetal position and cry.

Look at the rubbish nonsense you just posted. What did Bellerin say? Basically nothin.

Does Ozil help them dominate possession, dictate pace, breakdown defenses with his dribbling ability, break down deadlocks with clutch goals. I mean what? You're a moron and little twat. Just run away before you get smacked.

Why even bother with their blind worship when few pages ago they were talking about if Welbeck is fit they will prefer him than Sanchez because he fight with a legend keeper and some even suggest he should be drop.Sanchez was our best attacking player and i hope if he leave along with Ozil no one here should blame them but the manager who could not take care of that.
I will like them stay hopefully because i doubt this club under wenger will likely get players on their level or better.

Er I don't know why you are stroking your man boobs so much :woot: :woot: all I did was ask a simple question. How can I be sad that Arsenal won? I look at performance much more than simple results, but for now I go just bask in the victory ....end of story.

There will be more time to piss and moan
You have returned. Welcome back. Now apologise for being soft. You were just bring squeamish when you said Spuds

How did you enjoy Ozil's masterclass? :taunt: :taunt: :taunt: :taunt:

Returned? Are you mistaking me for a certain Waffiman :woot: :woot: wey go run under table as soon as nyash open

Nna I'm over the moon the Bills won. Matter of fact with a better lineup this would have ended 5 or six nothing .... and as for this Ozil masterclass, er what was it again

Is this a pack mentality or did I miss something??? WTF did he do? :scared: :scared:

Idiota

You are too serious sometimes bro.
Make good thinking a priority so that you can make Godly placement a possibility.

The only cowards are rumours mongers in your stupid Whatapps group, claiming that Leman and Alexis had an altercation. Arsenal are 12 points behind Mancity in November and you want us to be celebrating this hollow victory. Some of us have higher expectation than beating Spurs.

Nah! Igwe is in blue nest season. If you want to continue supporting him, you can fill out a temporary supporter form at mancity.co.uk :taunt:
