Latest information coming through to AfricanFootball.com is that FIFA have lifted the suspension on the Sudan Football Association.

The move comes after the Sudanese government has reportedly annulled the decision that prompted the ban.

Sudan was banned earlier this month following government interference in sport and the world's football governing body decided to disqualify the national team and local football clubs from international competitions.

Following the ban, three Sudanese clubs in Al-Merreikh, Al-Hilal Omdurman and Al-Hilal Obeid were banned by CAF from their participation in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

"Under the circumstances, FIFA decided to lift the suspension with immediate effect," said FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura.

Although the ban will receive a warm welcome, the announcement comes too late for Sudanese clubs in African club competitions.

Merriekh and Al-Hilal Omdurman were disqualified from the Champions League because of the FIFA suspension whilst Obeid was eliminated from the second-tier, Confederation Cup.

Following the new decision by FIFA, Sudan will now be able to contest a forthcoming 2018 CAF African Nations Championship qualifier against Burundi.

The BBC reports that Sudan earned its ban after the Ministry of Justice ordered the removal of Mutasim Gaafar Sir Elkhatim on 2 June as president of the country's FA after two rival groups claimed control of the body.

Sudanese clubs should be allowed back into the CAF competitions and either make up their lost games or at least forfeit them with 2-0/3-0 losses.
