Dutch Eerdivisie - Cyriel Dessers scores again

Post by Otitokoro »

Nigeria strike target, Cyriel Dessers of AFC Utrecht hit a double against Tyrone Ebuehi's ADO Den Haag yesterday in a Dutch league match, which was also his Eerdivisie debut.
Dressers is one of the Striker's on Rohr's radar and may be called upon for the Cameroon game.
He has not played any internationals for Belgium as yet so does not need FIFA approval to feature for Nigeria.

See highlights below. Dressers is wearing the #11 jersey for FC Utrecht.

A bit inconsistent. Plus tends to give up the ball a bit too easily sometimes...
Form is temporary; Class is Permanent!
Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

Shouldn't be called up for Cameroon.

Call him up for a friendly first.
Winners do it the right way.

Probably true for 90% of strikers in the pro game. I mean, very few strikers outside of top teams score consistantly. Heck, most of our strikers are just trying to get on the field of play.

So any tom d#$% and chukwu who scores a goal should now be called up to SE?

Are we really that desperate?

How on earth does he deserve to be called up ahead of

Ighalo
Bonaventure
Onyekuru
Success
Ideye
Kayode
Iheanacho

Success didn't play for his club on Saturday.

All this na name dropping. We need a team. If you don't have a good defense and midfielder, your forwards re irrelevant.

Atimes, one struggles to understand the thinking of you folks...

First of, this kid is not any Tom, d#$% or Chukwu. This is a kid that stated in an interview that he wanted to play for the country of his Mother, Nigeria. Second, the NFF has been in contact with him, so has Rohr, who asked him to move to a bigger club (which he did with his move to FC Utrecht). His double yesterday was during his debut in the Eerdivisie.
He checks all the marks for build, speed and decision making - something sorely lacking in the SE currently. Could his finishing be better? Absolutely. But so could the finishing of virtually all the strikers on your list.

Now, from a rationale standpoint:
Nigeria have a critical 'back to back' match series with African Champions Cameroon. Half of the strikers on your list have either been MIA for their respective clubs so far or have been shooting blanks. Two are in the middle of supposed transfers (Kayode and Ideye) while another is playing in some zoomba boomba league in the far east (Ighalo, who is still a very slow and very poor player, at least, for the SE). This is a kid in form and he shouldn't be called be looked at? That's just silly!

Also, because of the closeness of the both games and possible attrition, it makes sense to call about 30 player to camp, as opposed to the usual 24 or so. That makes his candidacy for a call up more plausible.

We should be our bredas keeper, they need a striker badly as they cannot rely on the aging Asamoah Gyan forever.

From all indications he has been approached by NFF and a possible call up to the SE is of high possibility, Rohr should look in his direction soon if he keeps up with his form.

While I agree with the need to call this boy up for SE, I do not believe the Cameroon game is the appropriate time. Football is not just about ability. It is also about psychological readiness. To debut a player in such a huge game is not the. Set for both player and team.
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

EII,
How would you be able to assess his 'psychological readiness' if you don't invite him and take a look at him?
The SE is replete with players having their 'debut' in crucial games and excelling. Oliseh, Finidi, Okocha, Yobo, Ordiah and several others debuted during ANC or WC games and passed the 'psychological readiness' test during their debuts.

And by the way, Ola Aina might actually debut in this game IF he obtains his clearance.

So, sorry Prof., but I don't buy your argument.
