Which Coach Are You?
Most of (if not all) us here are internet arm-chair coaches. Once in a while, some of us even coach U12 girls in Houston or choir team in church.
Although we have discussed football tactics on here, from day 1. I dont think we have ever discussed the way we like our "imaginary" team to play.
So, I ask una, what coach in present day football embodies your coaching philosophy. In essence, if you were hired to coach, in whose coaching image, will you manage your team?

Re: Which Coach Are You?
I shall go first.
Maurizio Sarri (Napoli).
The way Napoli plays is exactly the way any team I coach will play. They are unbelievable. Their technique and how they control games is up there. They also have a method were their front three is very fluid. Their off the ball movement is one of the best in Europe and gives them the opportunity to create spaces in tight situations. And of course, when they lose the ball, their high pressing, is a joy. I have seen a couple of their training videos (see the one I have attached below), and they that drill where you have 11 vs 11 on 1/3 of the pitch and the players have to press and press, while the attacking players have to pass the ball around the press.

Watch their tactics implemented in real game
Watch how the tactics in the training video is implemented on the pitch for the players who learn how to beat a press:

This video shows how they build up. There is no "just hoof up." Watch the method.

Had a coach that said, "Play what you see!" Pass to feet, keep the ball moving and yourself moving...
The difference in us having winning teams was based on the ball skill level of the players... their ability to have a range of passes and tight control.
And then you had the donkeys that all they did was run and fetch... and pass to the nearest man.
Love Klopp... before that Bruce Arena at UVA.

I loved Klopp's dortmund. I remember the game they dismantled Real Madrid at the Signa Iduna. It was "gather brushing." I think I a overly obsessed with high-pressing, and it frustrates me when teams attempt it and completely fail. Klopp knows how to set it up.Cellular wrote:Had a coach that said, "Play what you see!" Re: Which Coach Are You?
Hmmm....fantastic question. I honestly don't see myself as a coach. I'd be better as a scout/player agent. I think I have a better than average ability to recognize real talent, and I am also pretty good at team selection/subs. But to construct a game plan or coach players to play within a certain system? I don't think that's my strength.

None.
For me the dream is a Coach based on a template of a team of midfielders for all outfield positions.

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.
We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

Re: Which Coach Are You?
My own are 2.
1. I will like not to watch the game of my team but I will tell you how we played...remember I didn't watch Nigeria's match but this is how we played
2. I also like after the fact. After we have been whacked like 5-0 by the basement team, I can then proffer how we should have played. I hope those Stade de France and Etihad owners can like that.
Maybe a third...
Get under your porous skin so that you can perpetually mistakes...very much akin to what Chief Ogbus said.

TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED...
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding...hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe

Philosophically, the closest for me would be Pep. But I really like what Sarri's doing at Napoli. They are the most exciting team in Europe atm

Of course. Fluid fluidity. Effortless retention of possession, "they cannot score if they don't have the ball". Have not the successes of Atletico and Portugal more recent offered a haymaker to the hypothesis?txj wrote:None.

Diego Simeone, smartly ensembled, appropriately stubbled to fit the gentleman personna and yet the wind's change in direction away from confronting an opposing centre-half for a test of knuckles.
Players worked like the Israelites by a Pharoah, all pride, all passion, all in, all action. Red cards and 20 man brawls.
Re: Which Coach Are You?
It is a pity there aren't tons of dissections and articles out there in English on the late Tele Santana and Carlos Bianchi, and even our own late Amodu. I like the work they did, marrying flair with the players you have.

We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand
Roy Keane: ITV 02/25/14
He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14
I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Re: Which Coach Are You?
Organize a FIFA Video game retreat. That's how you know what coach they are, provided each person can translate his philosophy to the game.
I am not really too much in to flair. One or two dribblers could be helpful. Wing play is key and teamwork is most important for me.
I like a strong striker, big, physical and clinical.
I am more defensively minded. I enjoy the chess game and trying to cover spaces and blocking passing lanes.
I also play the possession game so I can be frustrating to play against, especially when I am a goal up or when trying to defend indirectly against a more clinical team.
But most of the time when i get the ball I am direct so I like to go and get a goal with few passes.
Mostly 5-4-1 and 4-4-1-1 when attacking. I try to spread my team all over the pitch so it appears I have more players than I do. Two defensive midfielders are always in front of the centre backs so that area is very compact and this forces the opponent to go wide. My attack usually comes from the wings because it is usually the least congested. Get the ball to the striker and boom.
