If you Could Pick Africa's 5 World Cup Representatives

Post by wiseone »

If you could cherry pick 5 countries to represent Africa at the WC, which five countries would you pick? (forget qualification - imagine you can just select the five teams you think would make the biggest impact at the WC)

By the way Nigeria is by far the best AFrican squad currently.

I said this back when we failed to qualify for ANC 2017 that we would win the competition if we had made it. I said Nigeria was better than any of the ANC 2017 competitors, and I was laughed at, but my predictions seem to be comming to fruition.

I dont see any other of the African reps doing anything of note in Russia other than Nigeria.

CIV seem to have a very balanced squad but for some reason they have been very poor under Marc Wilmots.

The five African teams that would cause most problems for European/South American teams at the WC, in my opinion are:

Ivory Coast
Senegal
Nigeria
DR Congo
Cape Verde (would love to see them at the WC just for the fun of it!)

Cape Verde
Zambia
Uganda
Burkina Faso
Guinea

Anyone supporting Ghana is either blindly patriotic, do not understand the game or both.

You are very wicked.

That said, I think BF's physical style would make some European teams uncomfortable (not the German or English lads though - they love an alley fight). Very surprised that Kabalega's list excluded IVC and Senegal...

Then why are people selecting a team that failed to make it to the last two AFCONs?

Because World Cup and CECAFA/AFCON are chalk and cheese

Its the same reason why Brazil is the most successful world cup team but very lousy in Copa America behind Uruguay and Argentina

CIV??? Fa fa fawuuullll!!! Eternal chokers.

My five would be:

Nigeria
Ghana
Egypt

....

Hm, I cannot think of any other team from Africa that would make an impact at the WC besides these 3, OK, I will add Senegal because of Mane, but that's it. 4 teams

Nigeria
Ghana
Egypt
Senegal

If I were being forced, I would add Morocco. They know how to deal with European teams at times.

so finally we have:

Nigeria
Ghana
Egypt
Senegal
Morocco

Wha choo looking at?!

Nigeria
CIV
Senegal (Wildcard)
Ghana
Tunisia

I would put Egypt, but they play dirty.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Then you trump that with a team that hardly ever qualifies for AFCON and doesn't even know WC exists. Yep, genius

Based on current form:

Nigeria
Tunisia
Egypt
Senegal
CIV

Interesting that no one is selecting Cameroon, the most recent AFCON champions and it is not because of bad belle. They simply have returned to their pre-AFCON form, hardly scoring goals or winning games.

Tunisia would be a wasted spot. They will have difficulty playing against better organized sides from South America and Europe.

Not one single person has picked Algeria. They have really ruined their reputation with their horrid form over the past year. This is a team that 1 year ago was the most feared team in Africa, and which at the last WC gave world champs Germany their toughest game. They took the world champs to extra-time and Germany won only after a goal in the dying moments of the game.
