Oloye, you guys are looking at the wrong parameters. Judging from the overall results, there was clearly a player/coaching imbalance in the squad and only good management saved the Rangers from going down. Chukwu made the right call by switching coaches when he did and even though Okpalla succeeded in the task that was given to him, it is hard not to notice that the Rangers were still not winning the games they were supposed to win so again, Chukwu's decision to overhaul the entire team is quite sound

While Chukwu does not strike me as a great administrator (no Jerry Enyeazu or JB Ogufere)...
Rangers were nonetheless already relegation candidates BEFORE Chukwu's appointment as GM.

Furthermore, while I personally admired the beautiful football that Rangers played under Imama Amapakabo and was disappointed to see him relieved of his position, his situation was no different from (for example) Claudio Ranieri who was fired early in the following season and barely months after winning the first top league title in the 133-year history of Leicester City. Fact is that when Imama was removed as coach, Rangers had "wombled and bumbled" through a disastrous CAF Champions' League campaign and was mired in a relegation dogfight in the NPFL (I believe Rangers was second to last on the log at some point during that period). Ultimately, football is a results business. That said, however, there's little evidence that Chukwu's appointment did much (if anything) to improve the situation.

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has sacked Rangers chief executive Christian Chuwu, while he blamed internal wranglings, indiscipline for the crisis that almost saw the deposed champions relegated this past season.

Rangers made history last October when they ended a 32-year wait for a major trophy by winning the NPFL championship.



However, this past season they had to flirt with relegation after they crashed out of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Chukwu, a former captain of the Coal City Flying Antelopes, was sent packing Tuesday night by the sponsors of the club, Enugu State Government.

It is the second time Chukwu had been engaged and sacked as Rangers GM, the first being in 1996 when his reign lasted for just three months with the club almost being relegated.

At a meeting between officials of the club and governor of Enugu State at government House on Tuesday, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the club and directed the immediate sack of the board of the club headed by Festus Onu with Chukwu as secretary and CEO.

“Since the management of the club has been sacked, let me also ask the board of the club to go as well”, governor Ugwuanyi said.

The governor announced that a committee will be set to oversee the club in the interim with members expected to be named after a meeting that would involve Christian Chukwu today.

Twenty four hours before his eventual sack, Christian Chukwu, a former SAFA football Club, Lebanon and Kenya’s Harambee Stars coach, had swept off all management and technical crew of the club, in a move he said, was aimed at injecting new life into the club following a dismal performance in the concluded domestic and continental seasons.

Chukwu was handed the mantle of leadership of the club in January but the team struggled all season, crashing out of the CAF Champions League on 5-3 aggregate to Zamalek of Egypt.

Governor Ugwuanyi said Rangers predicament this season was caused by infighting and indiscipline.

He also bemoaned the use by Rangers of players on loan, while alleging that monies from sale of players were pocketed by officials.
