CONGRATS GERNOT ROHR!!!
The man has done a ruthless professional job with SE so far. Simply one of the best coaching jobs I've seen in Africa in the last 20yrs. A calm, collected and calculating coach that sticks with his plan and leads his troops to battle with a clear objective and a plan to achieve. Like most great leaders he values effort, loyalty and work ethic as cornerstones of his team. He plays no games and is transparent with his decisions.
He now has 8 months to calibrate the SE for the WC. His conservative style suggests that he'll stick with those that brought him to the dance. To make the 2018 SE you must give him no option but to select you. He has a team already! He'll try new players but he's unlikely to bring in players that are strictly potential. For once SE is all about merit.
Congrats Mr Rohr..

He has done an excellent job. Best FC we have had bar none. WELL DONE.
Also congrats are due to egghead Picknick. The guy has tried well well to navigate us to RUssia without the usual hiccups. Lets just hope he and Rohr are able to navigate the minefield of pre world cup prep. Any body who tries to derail our preparations should be stoned to death.

We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand

He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.

I think Spain’s by far the best league.

Congrats to Rohr, Pinnick and Barister Green. They have set Nigeria up for success for years to come. The players they have drafted into the team and the culture they've created in the team will make us successful far beyond Russia. I can't wait for the return match against South Africa.

I have to say, I can really get used to a "no drama" NFA and Super Eagles. So far so good.
I had doubts about Foreign Coaches, but Rohr has changed my mind with his excellent preparation and steadfast, no nonsence approach. You can tell his staff and the players really like him as well and will do whatever he asks.
We have a solid foundation to build on for the WC. The hard work starts now, good like Eagles, we are with you!

Re: CONGRATS GERNOT ROHR!!!
Congrats to Rohr for rescuing a situation that seemed doomed from the start AND congrats to Pinnick for hiring the coach despite opposition from the FG and sports minister. They starved him of funds but he came up with creative ways to raise private funding for this World Cup qualifying campaign and to pay the coach. Many will choose to forget this.EMIR KONGI JAFFI JOFFA wrote:Barrister Green ke? This is all ROHR!1naija wrote:Congrats to Rohr, Pinnick and Barister Green. Pinnick is far from perfect but hopefully, he has set a new standard for the NFF boss in terms being able to seek private funding instead of relying solely on the FG.

WHENEVER YOU QUALIFY FOR THE WC...
...congrats are due. So congrats to Rohr for a job well done. However, since this thread was presented in historical context, let's go back a few years to see what other coaches have done. In 2001, after all hope was gone (you all remember that bleak period), Amodu qualified the SE for Korea/Japan, a feat he was to repeat for SA2010.
We also recall how Keshi qualified the ultimate no-hopers Togo, something that may not be repeated for a long time to come. Then he qualified Nigeria for Brazil 2014.
Amodu and Keshi were not just going against the opposition - they had to worry about in-house opponents who did their best to sabotage them. As proofs, Amodu never led Nigeria to the tournament despite two stunning turnaround jobs and Togo found a convenient excuse to deny Keshi a trip to Germany.
Has there been the slightest hint that Rohr would not lead the SE to Russia? Has anybody ever told him to resign if he doesn't like his working conditions? Unfortunately, these are man-made obstacles Nigerian coaches have to battle against. But whenever a foreign coach arrives, Nigerians all of a sudden discover good conduct and everything is done to ensure smooth sailing.
Again, take nothing from Rohr, but how many of these players were his own discoveries? Again, not Rohr's fault, but I think the 94 edition of the SE is yet to be beat.

The players made clear what they think of Rohr by tossing him in the air at the end. Now we hope for smooth preparation for the WC. Pay him his salary and fulfill his contract. The goalkeeping situation was a test and he came out with flying colours.

It has not all been smooth sailing for Rohr. The man is just very down to earth. He strikes me as someone who just accepts the way things are done in Africa and takes it all in stride.Bell wrote: ...when coaching performance is being discussed, and when the history is written, I don't want people to factor out how shabbily Nigerian coaches are treated and how their job is made more difficult by those who should be, paradoxically, taking joy their success.

I think he is owed a lot in salary arrears. When asked about his lack of pay (or the inconsistency in payments) he joked that as long as he has beer to drink and a roof over his head he is fine.
I believe he has escaped much of the internal politics due to the way he is being funded. Not by the govt but by a sponsor. So the so-called "stakeholders" no longer have a "stake" and ability to cause disruption.

Be careful though, in the tradition of the NFF, I hear they're already looking for a coach for the wc

Re: CONGRATS GERNOT ROHR!!!
Damn... don't remind me about Amodu. The guy got shafted good... twice... by the FA. He deserved to lead Nigeria to the World Cup. Who knows? Maybe he would have qualified us in 2002 and 2010? Come to think of it the only two times we failed to progress from our group was when the coach that qualified the team got shafted under bogus pretenses.

Re: CONGRATS GERNOT ROHR!!!
The guy is NOT a good coach. What he has done is get the fundamentals right - pick the best players available. Other coaches, who would remain unnamed, let other considerations influence their selections.
Is it any wonder that some players that used to feature regularly b/4 Rohr vanished from the scene? Today, we know what our first team is. It brings stability, as opposed to the endless wheeling and dealing that meant caps were dished out "anyhow".
If Rohr can get his settled team to play with cohesion, we can look forward to the WC with optimism.

Rohr can do better with his team selections, we are currently blessed to have a lot of exciting new talents available and Rohr seems afraid to explore, South Africa exposed Rohr as 100% dependent on Vic mo, Balogun, and Mikel, Rohr has to give other quality players a chance. When it was obvious that the team selection failed during the game against South Africa, Rohr was clueless on game management.

Congrats to Gernot Rohr
You are the first SE coach in over a decade who has focused on inviting the best available Nigerian players to camp
Thanks for bringing an end to the era of weird call ups and bizarre exclusions
I don't always agree with his team selections or invitations but one can see every thing is based on merit
Its a shame it has taken a foreigner to do basic things like this right but it is what it is
Anyway well done Rohr!!
For restoring Nigeria to her rightful place as the undisputed giant of African football

Re: CONGRATS GERNOT ROHR!!!
When you lose doesn't mean the team selection failed. It means we didn't win. We really need to look at games objectively especially when we lose. First of all in the SA game, the better team lost. We dominated the first half but did not take our chances. Once we conceded a goal, our lack of experience that day kicked in. You can kick the man for not involving a lot of experienced players but how do the players without experience get it if they do not play? We need to ask ourselves that question and stop being simplistic about the analysis of that game cause we lost.9jaMan wrote:Kneedeep wrote:Rohr is a genius
