Gernot Rohr and Imprint on SE...
The game in Yaounde has been, in my opinion, the most clinical display by Nigeria for years. Besides conceding an unforced penalty kick, Nigeria gave Cameroon few decent chances in front of goal and Nigeria closed down quickly and consistently. That is a recipe that we are likely to see more often at the World Cup.
Details can be found by clicking on the following link:His work on team playing strategies and tactics along with developing the team’s personnel are beginning to regenerate Nigeria and to create potential for greater things. Much of his success will ultimately be measured by how far Nigeria goes at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

EII great write-up and observations.
I believe the SE is a work in progress for coach Rohr and his staff, and there will be at least
three different starting players in Russia from those that played in the qualifiers.
Keep up the good work.

NIGERIANS ARE UNDERSTANDABLY HAPPY ABOUT QUALIFYING FOR RUSSIA, BUT...
...in their joy they seem to be going overboard in their praise for Rohr. Let's face it, nothing he's done is revolutionary - they are things many other nations take for granted. Except, of course, in Nigeria. But as the author rightly opined: "Much of his success will ultimately be measured by how far Nigeria goes at the 2018 World Cup in Russia."

That's not how I'd describe myself. The man did what he was hired to do and did not, in the process, do things that would infuriate people or sensitivities. But give the devil his due. When a (presumably Nigerian) reporter asked what country he would camp the players, as though camping has to be done overseas, he said he'd start in Nigeria. When he proposed a friendly, he said it should be played in Abuja.
He has also asked that the bonus issue be addressed and resolved in advance to avoid potential distraction. No revolution here and I'm sure there are Nigerian coaches who could come up with things like these. Unfortunately, everyone in the FF and every local power would try to analyze, second guess, reject and impose upon him in a way they wouldn't dare to do with Rohr. The shame is on Nigeria.
An example of what I'd call going overboard is the suggestion that it was Rohr who designated V. Moses as the free kick taker. As far as I know, players who perceive themselves as the best on a team usually treat those things as a perk reserved for them. So unless one can show me where Rohr specifically designated Moses, I'll continue to assume that he made the call.

Should we then infer that Mikel Obi, who mostly took those set-pieces, has now deferred to Victor Moses as the best player on the team?

I think Moses' perception of himself has been buoyed by being a starter on championship team. I don't think it was said in words but maybe in action. For example, if Mikel sees Moses all of a sudden been around when there's a free kick, he might have taken a live-and-let-live attitude and not get into a "fight" as to who should be taking such shots. I've seen this attitude in many clubs by many players: Drogba/Chelsea; Rooney/MUtd-Everton, Henry/Arsenal, Donovan/Galaxy & USA, Keane/LA Galaxy, etc. But such perks are not extended to free throws (nothing prestigious there), just PK's and corners. What makes it even more interesting is that most of these players are not specialists, like Beckham, in this and are forwards who should be at the receiving end of spot kicks. But if someone can show me that this was a decision by Rohr, I'd like to see it.

You won't be shown that decision by anyone for either the SE or most professional clubs. You simply can infer not just those but other tactical decisions based on establishment of patterns. In the case of FKs, it certainly can be inferred that the Rohr made the decision. Prior to his tenure, there were several FK takers and IMO I would think that Simon Moses was the most effective. The cornerbacks were mostly by Mikel or Musa. However, since the Cameroon game, Vic Mo has taken control of all septettes, FKs & CKs. I doubt that he could lord it over the captain without the coach's say so. Moreover, this is a team that practices these set-pieces as variously reported. Would Moses take control of that in practice over the coach's decision? Unlikely, except if you are inferring that Rohr is simply a games master (LOL).

...Henry/Arsenal, Drogba/Chelsea and the others: would you say the decision was made by the coaches or a privilege that the players involved assumed for themselves? The likes of Beckham and David Luis and even Willian I understand - you know they are specialists - but what about the others?

Re: Gernot Rohr and Imprint on SE...
Not in all cases does the coach make the decision. In fact, it is more likely that the coach did not make the decision when there are multiple guys taking the kicks. Prior to Vic Mo now taking these kicks, Nigeria had such a situation. I am not a focused study of club football to even know that Drogba or Henry was the sole set piece taker for their clubs and, thus, I would not argue from a poorly-educated position. My interest in club football is often not on the field play TBH but on the support system, etc.Bell wrote:

Perhaps, you may want to think why the SE moved from multiple takers to designated takers under Rohr. Was it coincidence? Or was it Vic Mo suddenly taken control of team decision?
