Yes, Deeney's ability to occupy the backline was essential to their approach. That being said, Watford equipped themselves well. Chelsea need to address their midfield orientation, Fabregas, a creative hub exemplar, in tandem with Bakayoko, offers as much protection as a broken condom.

My brother, the brave part is what confuses me about this team a times. For most of this season, this team has not been proactive enough in their approach. Team sits too deep and does not press the opposition at all for most of the game until the team needs a goal. It is crazy to see how opposition teams have stopped CFC from building from the back via pressing game but CFC does not repay the favor. The team only presses once the opposition gets to CFC's half..

Is this due to loss of Kante, Fatigue, or just Conte starting off too conservative.

Also think that Conte should put out a full youth team in league cup. That cup na distraction. Players in need of serious recovery. I think baka/Cesc have played the last 4 games in a stretch. 3 games in 10 days already.
Agreed. Curling Cup must be executed with squad players plus academy players. Conte doesn’t have a choice. The team he puts out should be fairly competitive given the likes of Rudiger, Christensen, zappacosta, mitchy, Masonda and Kennedy will start with the starters on the bench.

The problem wrt the lack of pressing is largely a matter of choice by Conte given towards the second half of last season, they drastically reduced pressing as much as they did during that 13 game win streak. .. and they were still getting results consistently. It’s safer not to press but you need a midfield that can routinely break up play in your half to spur counters. Injuries in that department don’t help. Also the fact that Hazard didn’t have a preseason might explain why he’s not sharp as expected. There are multiple issues to consider but the biggest issue is the midfield shield isn’t the right mix. Fàbregas should be a super sub and not a regular starter. Conte might have to take a gamble on one of the academy midfield kids pending their performance vs Everton this midweek.
