Now try and guess the six new faces Rohr is referring to

Post by Ayo Akinfe »

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed that he could introduce as many as six new players in his starting line up when they take on Algeria on Friday.

Nigeria are up against Algeria in a dead rubber World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie on Friday, and according to Rohr he would use the game to test some fringe players in his team.

” All the games are important, it’s right we have already qualified for the World Cup, so the result is not the most important, the most important in this game will be to play a good game”, Rohr said in an interview posted on the official twitter handle of the Super Eagles.

” We always play to make good games and good results , but it’s an opportunity for us to see some players who didn’t play so much during the qualifiers because we have our team, and now we have six injuries, so it will be at least six changes”.

My guess is that the six changes from the team that started against Zambia in Uyo will be:

[1] Uzoho
[2] Aina
[3] Iwobi
[4] Kayode
[5] Iheanacho
[6] Onyekuru

This will mean the team facing Algeria looking something like this:

***********************************************Kayode**************************************

***********************Iheanacho***********************Onyekuru************************

***********************************************Iwobi****************************************

***************************Ndidi*****************************Mikel**************************

***Aina*******************Balogun*********************Ekong****************Abdullahi***

**********************************************Uzoho*******************************************

My only surprise is that he is not prepared to try out Ebuehe at rightback. I would have thought this would be the perfect opportunity to test the lad. Anyway, I may be wrong but let us see.

Iheanacho
Iwobi
Are not new faces o. Your line up is too strong for Algeria. We need to test fringe players against Algeria then play our best against Argentina

ROHR is a smart coach that will not take unnecessary risks by starting stupid experiments like calling new players 48hrs before a game. He has a plan and it's working, whoever he sees fit will play. No need for silly guesses.

Let's not forget this is a competitive game. It is recorded by FIFA as a competitive game. It is NOT a friendly. Nigerian fans are fickle, VERY fickle and it extends to the administrators too. If Rohr experiments too much and loses badly against Algeria, he could find himself in a position where he is struggling to keep his job for the WC.

I highly doubt he would use an untested keeper in a competitive game. Ezenwa was already part of the team and training with the team for a very long time before he took over the role, and it had to take an injured Akpeyi for him to start. Uzoho may be tested against Argentina if he shows promise in training.

From the last game. The line up will change.

Musa is likely gonna start, so I'd say at least these five

Musa, Iwobi, Iheanacho, Ogu, Aina. As far as Uzoho, I don't think he will get much PT, from what I've seen so far, he's just a young prospect but that's all.

They are new faces in the settled starting lineup that played the last 3 games. The 4 obvious names are Ola Aina, Kayode, Iwobi and Kelechi. It gets murky from there but I'd like to see what the kid goalie, Uzoho, can do. Put your hand in the hat and grab the 6th name.

Nwakaeme is likely to play in one game (or both)...
Uzoho is unlikely to get any playing time (or very limited time).

Ask yourself why Man City stopped playing him in the role and went to buy Jesus Gabriel. Some of you can make a man go insane! Every time Iheanacho has played that role for the Eagles it has been a disaster, yet you kept wanting to play him there!

Is this to make Nigeria lose or what? As far as I am concerned, what you are doing is treasonable!

How can someone that had the best goal per minute ratio as a pure 9 be considered not good enough for that position. Play iheanacho at number and create chances for him, he would score. You might call it whatever but he can play as a top 9 because of his positional awareness and finishing. He didn't into pep philosophy but it has nothing to do with his finishing abilities. The nobo is just not pep type of player. Poor 1st touch etc

The targetman’s main job is to hold the ball up. Iheanacho does not have the physical strength to play that role!

The underlined names have already played for the SE team so they are not new.
