Not really. If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense. That is the mantra of corporate America which is the main driver. They feel there's some low hanging bread to be grabbed via cover of the WC. There's free bread lying around and they wan grab am. That's all.
Well their dollars is not our interest.

I am sure many of the major corporate backers of the World Cup are American companies (Cocacola, McDonalds, ESPN etc. among others), but the same dollars that makes sense if this does go through will still come into play if it doesn't. They have invested before and made revenue before, so abeg.

The World doesn't need this new tournament, no matter which way they try to spin it. It should be resisted. If there are funding issues, alternative funding sources should be looked into. I feel America is muscling World football a little too much nowadays anyways. So maybe we need less of their dollars. I wonder if we can look into Chinese sponsors, Australian sponsors, more European sponsors or even Middle Eastern sponsors.

It is too much of a price to pay. We can't devalue the World Cup, because of their dollars. American investors sometimes create more problems than they address. Look at how they handle investments in European football! It is a trojan horse.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Tbite, the point is as long as there’s a tidy quick buck to make in exploitation of the WC, business folks will explore it. Capitalism 101 which USA lives by wholeheartedly. How you feel is irrelevant. The only relevance is the viability of attracting the best of the countries that missed out. That may prove to be a tough ask especially for a proud nation like Italy. Otherwise in theory it’s a money maker and apparently, Fifa isn’t standing in their way.

Two of which where in Nigerias group  and non of which came second in the group (in Nigerias group) so they probably couldn't make the losers World Cup roster!

Group A
Italy
USA
Cameroon
New Zealand

Group B
Holland
Ghana
Ireland
Paraguay

Group C
Chile
Ivory Coast
Scotland
Norway

Group D
Wales
Algeria
Northern Ireland
Bolivia

I guess this would be a good tournament if all the teams attended with their A squads but we all know it will not happen. First of all, the players will want a break and secondly, the logistics will interfere with the World Cup itself. When the season ends in May and the World Cup starts in June, organising this tournament will get in the way as most teams will be involved in pre-World Cup friendlies.

Do you know Fox Sports invested $400m in World Cup TV rights? They are doing this because they are at a loss about how to recoup their investment. How many Americans will tune in to the World Cup if the US is not playing in it?
