WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
If the score was reversed, and it was Nigeria that got beat 4-2, there’d be pages and pages of analysis on here about how Rohr/this or that player got it wrong.
Because we’re Nigerian, a lot of the analyses would be overly emotional. So why don’t we do an exercise...I’ve watched the game a few times and still can’t pin point why Argentina failed so badly. Did they simply play a better team? Or was this a tactical failure? If so, where? Even Sampaoli, in his post game presser, seemed confused

They didn't take the game seriously because they wanted to avoid injuries.

Bros, perhaps Argentina's players were naive...
The difficulties of statistical thinking describes a puzzling limitation of our mind: our excessive confidence in what we believe we know, and our apparent inability to acknowledge the full extent of our ignorance and the uncertainty of the world we live in. We are prone to overestimate how much we understand about the world and to underestimate the role of chance in events -- Daniel Kahneman (2011), Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
They (Argentina) didn't anticipate the fight back. The SE never stopped believing and kept running hard... Our boys had a good leader on the pitch and a good tactician on the bench.....It wasn't a fluke, we were the better team on the night.
Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Yeah, it couldn't be because of Rohr's tactical adjustment at the half. It must be because they didn't take the game seriously.EMIR KONGI JAFFI JOFFA wrote:They didn't take the game seriously because they wanted to avoid injuries.

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Argentina players went through the motions in the second half after Sergio Agüero collapsed and was taken to hospital at half time.

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Arrogance and racism played a big part in their loss. They felt they just had to show up for the second half as there is no way these savage Africans can come back and beat them. Their body language showed they they felt the game was theirs for taking Come what may!
Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Argentina struggled through the WC qualifier and without their talisman (Messi), they remain just an ordinary side. It wasn't in the script to lose to Nigeria. It's just that we had a few more gears and Argentina couldn't match that..

So Nigeria is the better side and Argentina should have had no hope of winning?

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
This happens in FIFA video game all the time.
You are playing a team you expect to beat. You take the lead. You assume what you see from the opponent is all you will see. The opponent unleashes an unexpected ultra-attack that sweeps your team away. The opponents scores 3 goals in quick succession. You try to fight back but you opponent has gone ultra-defensive and is now playing on the counter. Now you have no way to find your way back in the game.
I am sure the next time we play Argentina they will be prepared.

You think Argentina players specifically asked to have a friendly game with Nigeria just to boost their confidence?

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Wrong question.
Its more about what Nigeria did different than what Argentina did wrong.
We played with more confidence and less fear, and we also plugged some of the defensive holes they exploited in the 1st half.
Watch the game again. Tactically, we both kept the same formation, and they continued to try their high pressing football all game. The difference was we were more accurate in our passing, and more positive in our movement off the ball.
Give Rohr and the Super Eagles some credit, please!

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Argentina didn't necessary do anything wrong except failed to match Nigeria's intensity for time & space. But since you asked - There are however several variables; #1) football is still a sports irrespective of strategies ie means predictions/ outcomes would not always adhere to usual power differential related eclectics. #2) Sergio Romero was not in goal for the argentines & neither was Enyeama. #3) Nigeria had higher motivational needs to come out with a victory haven been beaten by Argentina 90% of the times the two teams met previously. #4) is projection which people already talked about. Argentine's projected fallacy obviously was informed by the results they have gotten in the past against us. I think once they effortlessly scored two quick consecutive goals same projected fallacy
make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
Most of the answers on here are philosophical. If Nigeria has been beaten 4-2, the answers would have been analytical. Everyone would be jumping to prove they knew what went wrong...There’s hardly a game Nigeria loses on here where the predominant reasoning provided is Team Y was just the better side.

Re: WHAT DID ARGENTINA DO WRONG
When top teams lose it's because they did something wrong and when unfancied teams win it's not because they did some things right.
The bottom line is Argentina lost to a better team on the day. No matter who you are as a team you can only play the team in from of you regardless of strength and weaknesses. Argentina lost to a sharper and more clinical Nigeria.

Rohr did not change anything tactically in the second half. He just changed the personnel.Damunk wrote:The OP should be flogged for his titling of this thread.1naija wrote:Yeah, it couldn't be because of Rohr's tactical adjustment at the half.
