2018 FIFA WC: Eagles reject pay-per-minute bonus

THE Super Eagles have reportedly turned down a proposal by the Nigeria Football Federation to pay the players of the national team winning bonus based on the minutes they played during the qualifiers.

However, the NFF not wanting to rock the boat has made a U-turn and will pay the players a $3 million qualifying bonus for the 2018 World Cup according to their call-ups and appearances. “Mikel and the rest of the team outrightly threw out a proposal brought forward by one of the NFF vice-presidents that they should now be paid the bonus by the number of the minutes they played in the qualifiers. “That would have meant some of the players who were called up but never got to play will not benefit from the bonus,” SCORENigeria quoted an NFF official as saying.. The players insisted they would rather go with what was used previously, that is players who were called up for the six group qualifiers as well as the second round eliminator against Swaziland. “To be paid according to playing time will bring desperation in the team, against team spirit, and the players rejected this.”

Nigeria failed to beat France in the last world cup match because of agitation on bonus. NFF want to start again? The team should be given their dues. Why this pay-as-you-play suggestion.!! Which responsible player will want to answer a call if he is not sure it will lead to him playing throughout the whole camping period?

From what I gather in the article, this took place during the discussions before the bonus structure were officially agreed on and announced? If so, this is normal. There will always be differences of opinions. The most important thing is that these issues have been discussed among players, staff and officials.

But you are contributing your own quota to the problem by reporting and commenting on what could very easily turn out to be fake news.

When you say 'NFF don come again" you are taking the report as fact, even though there are many reasons why you could quite easily punch holes in the story and either ignore it completely or adopt a siddon look approach until more info emerges.

Everyone wants to be the first to report bad and sensational news and that's what it seems like you are doing here, just at a time everybody is beginning to feel good about where our football is heading.

Of course, I could be wrong; but your "NFF don start" comments do not leave any room for the possibility that your own conclusions could be wrong, or that the story is fake.

No need at all. Yes they must chop but isn't there any form of decency and professionalism in Nigerian journalism anymore? If they reported this before a deal was agreed it would make more sense.
