Remind me why we are here again?

César Luis asked as he fidgeted, clearly uncomfortable

They sat round the table in a dark quiet room, a clandestine who’s who of Argentine football, gathered for a single purpose, all of them legends in their own right. But a single chair was left unoccupied.

“To discuss the Africans in our world cup group Nigeria”. Gaucho replied. ‘He’ is worried

“Ridiculous” said César. “He is always worried! We are assured of three points against Nigeria, they can never . . . http://www.soccerassembly.com/buenos-aires-morning/

No surprise here. I have said before in another thread when similar topic was brought up. I said Nigeria is not in any way a rival to Argentina. It's always been a beating.

There is always a "first time to everything", perhaps this is the first time we will triumph against the Albicelestes. On the other hand, by the time we meet Argentina, it might NOT matter much to us.

... because for some reason, I see us (Nigeria) topping the group. I see us beating Croatia (our first opponent) and from there things falls into place for us.

Nice read. The god in the fictional meeting is obviously the one-and-only Diego Maradona. All said, we'll beat them come June. I believe at that point both teams should be playing for the group leadership. In Rohr, Mikel and Moses we trust!

Of all the 'unlikely' events that have yet to transpire in the WC, one of the more likely events is Nigeria beating Argentina. If that makes any sense at all.

Yes, we have taken a beaten continuously, but we have NEVER been too far from a result against Argentina. Nigeria is much better now than we were in 2010 and 2014, while Argentina is NOT better than they were. And I don't just say that based on their recent struggles.

So the gap between Argentina and Nigeria today (and this has nothing to do with the friendly), is actually closer than it has been in a very long time. There is a realistic chance of Nigeria beating Argentina. Yes we are not the favourites, but I might even consider putting money on Nigeria win, to put it another way!
