The award is not just won on talent but achievements, which in that case he definitely is. Mane has been injured for a good portion of 2017 and missed that Pen in the AFCON against Cameroon. Naby Keita hasn't really accomplished much with his country even though he has had a good year with his club. Vic we know the case and he's been great for us but Salah has carried his nation in a the AFCON and the World Cup Qualifiers.

Naby Keita has done zilch for Guinea this year. Yes, he is a big name in Europe and set to join Liverpool at the end of the season after doing great for Leipzig but he has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for African football this year!

99% of people who voted for salah, voted for him because he plays in the epl, and the last 3 months , he has been the most inform goal scorer..I like salah, however I do not respect voting systems when it comes to picking up the best players....

How do you know what formed the basis of how 99% of respondents voted? Do you think the Egyptians voted for him because of his exploits with Liverpool.

A couple of these types of awards have been debatable...

1998 APOY handed to Moustapha Hadji & 2004 APOY handed to Samuel Eto were shams...

The BBC APOY have had credible winners thus far...

Salah won this fair & square....

Well deserved.. in terms of voting Salah would get more, because of Salah, Liverpool now has an Arabic website.. When he was signed, Liverpool followership in Arab world and Eqypt became so numerous and they decided to have an Arabic website..
So in terms of voting he would always win.. Salah also unites the Egyptian supporters divide, because he neither played for Al Ahly or Zamelek become going abroad.. he is infact the Arabian Messi..

Bollocks :???:

The sages always say "the crown has to sit on the true regent's head..."

So often we witness crowned APOY's not living up their crowns...Hadjji in 1999 never looked like Hadjji of 1998 (he allegedly earned his crown due to his heroics at AFCON98) As reigning APOY, Hadjji plodded at Coventry in the shadow of his successor, Arsenal's Kanu...Just a mere few months into his coronation, the crown on Hadji's head seemed out of place...

As reigning APOY at AFCON04, Eto could very well have transferred the crown to JJ Okocha and there would have been few protests; such was the gulf in the performance of both players at the tournament...

APOY's like 1991 (Abedi); 1993 (Yekini); (1995) Weah; 1999 (Kanu); (BBC APOY 2004) Okocha; (2005) Eto; etc; all 'wore the crowns that fit...'

Salah's coronation fits especially as it is happening at the peak of his powers...A case could be made for the other nominees over the earlier half of the calendar...but over the latter half, Salah has been miles ahead...

As if to rest the debate, he scores a stupendous goal on the weekend of his BBC coronation...
