Oruma didn’t play well prior to the World Cup, he was over weight and not inform. Onigbinde has no reason to drop him had it been he was in form. Ikedia might be headless sometimes, he was still an attacking threat. Agali and co were in solidarity with Oliseh and Finidi.

John you are the one talking rubbish. I am not saying he should have walked into the squad. Rather he should have been integrated into the team much sooner and made to compete with Tigani. Same with Obiorah. That team was aging and needed youth. As for Ikedia himself. look at his performance in 1999 WYC and the u23s. He was Ngerias best player.

2002 was somewhat excusable because it was the ministry that disbanded the team. This forced the new coach to go pick newer/younger players.

What Keshi did in 2014 (with team selection) however still hurts.

Ikedia was the best player in the 1999 u20 team that included the likes of Agahower and Yobo. Dude was a good foward. His only problem was that he could not cross. But he was very incisive and always gave opposing defenders fits. I had no issues with his inclusion in 2002. Sorry but some of the established players like Tijani Babangida and Babayaro were getting waaay to comfy in the SEs and Amodu did nothing to increase competition. That was part of his downfall. Imagine if the likes of Ikedia, Obiorah, Osaze were integrated into the SEs sooner. We could have won the 2000 AFCON and done well at the 2002 WC.

Ramon Azeez was a starter in a La Liga club, so that was a justifiable callup. For one thing he should have come on for Onazi in the France game. Likely he would have done better than Reuben.
Kunle Odunlami was a question of lack of options. We didn't have defenders playing in Europe that we could choose from. Who exactly would you have taken to the World Cup ahead of him?
Also it has to be said 2014 was a low point as for Nigerians playing first team football in top leagues or performing well in secondary leagues.

But despite this lack of depth the selection of Ameobi, Nwofor, Uchebo, Reuben and to a lesser extent Babatunde was inexcusable. For one thing the missed opportunity was that Keshi could have even taken some young prospects like Ndidi or Iheanacho, if there really were no options. Iheanacho was on fire then and could have been a secret weapon.

And those players you mentioned are nothing like the discourse we are having now.
Henry Onyekuru is the only Nigerian top scorer in a notable European league and he's at the top of the table again this season.
Even Fanendo Adi that was mentioned lately is no one season wonder in the States. He's consistently scored for years now.
If you look at the credentials of the 2002 and 2014 players and compare them to what who we are looking into right now the difference in class is all too great.

What is worrying right now is that some of our greatest talents are wasting away on bench duties: Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Kelechi Nwakali, Victor Osimhen and yes even Ahmed Musa.
There was no need taking Odunlami to the WC as we already had 4 CDs in Yobo, Omeruo, Oboabona and Egwueke in the squad.
I am happy
